This Ford Ranger Pickup XLT was an emergency buy. My previous vehicle was not running and was more to repair than acquiring this vehicle from a co-worker under the conditions that I was offered. I was indifferent to this vehicle at first. It is, however, the first pickup I have ever owned. I grew to see the versatility of a pickup from this vehicle. It has also turned out to be the most reliable, versatile, and easy to own and maintain of the vehicles I have owned. I also learned the value of a five speed manual transmission from this vehicle.
Story
I learned to mix concrete with this vehicle. In my rural area there are a lot of unpaved back roads. These turned out to be ideal for "harvesting" sand to mix with cement when you're learning how to work with concrete.
Pros
This is a basic working man's pickup truck. It is not a luxury vehicle. It is meant to provide moderate comfort and amenities for a person using it for getting things done. However, it delivers those traits exceptionally. It is rugged and well built, not delicate or fragile. It provides shelter when working in inclement weather and can be accessorized when needed to carry moderately weather vulnerable cargo. It has the bigger of the small Ford six cylinder engines and it is light enough so that it cannot be called "underpowered". If you know how to take care of it (like I do not) or can af... (more)
Cons
There is not a lot of creature comforts in this working man's pickup truck. It is not a center of luxury or entertainment. Yet it can be accessorized easily to make it so. If I were seeking a similar pickup truck I would choose this same model but a model in the same like with a 4-door crew cab. This would give me the best of both worlds as far a passenger economy and rugged durability for getting things done outside with.

I have a Ford Ranger from 1997, which I purchased used in 2004. It's a very reliable little truck, and I depend on it for completing everyday tasks like driving to the grocery store, to much bigger tasks such as moving from state to state. Living in Arizona and New Mexico, having a good air conditioning system is really important while driving. The A/C in my Ranger has never broken down on me and always provided a nice, refreshingly cold current of air in the cabin. And I find the cloth drivers seat to be pretty comfortable in any weather conditions. My sole complaint about the truck is that because it's rather small and light, it doesn't handle driving in the rain or snow very well and I've had a few close calls due to hydroplaning and skidding out in snowbanks - a problem I've amelio... Story
I enjoyed driving my truck around Santa Fe in the spring time with one of my school friends - we would just cruise around the city during our downtime between studies, or go catch a movie. I'll always value those memories of time I spent with my friend driving around.
Pros
Air Conditioning CD player Automatic Transmission Small enough to fit in compact parking Good highway vehicle
Cons
A little too lightweight for rain and snow driving Only two seats Not much space behind seats
