2006 Ford Ranger - It is a good truck overall.
I bought it new and paid cash in 2006 and have not have any major issues with it. I like that it is a long-lasting truck. It's not too big, but I can still haul things if I need to. The only downside is it doesn't get very good gas mileage. Overall, I definitely got my money's worth it of it.
Story
I have used this vehicle to make unplanned beach trips many times. They were all very fun.
Pros
I like the look of the truck. The body style is nice. I have put 250,000 miles on it and have only had to do minor repairs and basic maintenance so far. I like the large radio front in it. I also like that it is automatic.
Cons
Having a little more room in the back would be nice. It also does not get very good gas mileage at all. The tailgate latch broke off a while back so that probably needs to be made a little bit better.
2001 Ford Ranger - It is a pretty good little truck.
This is a pretty good little truck, It has been well maintained, runs well, doesn't use oil, gets decent gas mileage for the engine size (4.1L) It is a very attractive vehicle to be a truck. I have an EX, which means extended cab. I am not very impressed by the jump seats in that area - I doubt they are very safe or comfortable - but I only expect to use them in an emergency. I wanted the EX so that I could carry pets and groceries in the cab and still have room to move and breath.
Story
I got caught in the surprise snow storm of 2014 in Anniston, AL and spent 3 hours stuck in inch-along traffic. After awhile I realized that I would never be able to get up the hill outside of town to get home as obviously the emergency crews weren't able to do anything to clear the road. Pros
It is a really cute little truck, and seems to be made better and be more durable than the Chevy S-10s I have owned previously. It feels very solid and tough, and even with 122,000 miles on it, it still runs great, has plenty of power, and doesn't use oil.
Cons
Turning ratio is terrible for such a small vehicle. You need a lot of room to turn it around. And the dome light doesn't work correctly, never has, and I gather that this is a common problem with this vehicle.
