2000 Ford Ranger - Great all-purpose truck!
This little truck is nearing 200k miles and is still going strong. There have been very few mechanical issues, especially when you consider the age of the vehicle and the mileage on it. These were mostly tough non-highway miles as well, which is even more impressive. I love the classic look of this truck and that it doesn't try to be a trendy truck of the month. This particular model has plenty of room behind the seats for groceries and has pull down seats for people to sit in, though I would not recommend that for long distances. The bed is large enough to hold two kayaks, though they do stick out a couple of feet.
Story
On a weekend trip to the mountains I had two kayaks and two stand-up boards in and on this truck. I'm sure it looked pretty funny.
Pros
Classic look, mechanically sound, easy to repair, easy to find parts when needed, large bed for transporting items, room in the cab for groceries, etc.
Cons
The paint. Ford is known for having issues with its paint jobs during this time period, and this vehicle is no exception. The paint chips off and peels much sooner than that of other makes. I use it as an all-purpose work truck, so this doesn't bother me, but if you're looking to impress than you should take it into account.
2000 Ford Ranger - Great little truck!
This is a great little truck! It is stylish and handles well.
Story
I used to keep my kayaks on the rack at all times just in case we felt like kayaking. One time we were high up in the mountains about to go for a hike and a park ranger was baffled as to why we had our kayaks with us.
Pros
It has great fuel economy for a vehicle in its class. Plus, it even has good towing ability. It comes with a roof rack for kayaks or other equipment, though SUP boards and surfboards will fit right in the bed. It has ample room behind the seats for groceries etc. Easy maintenance as every shop has parts for this vehicle.
