2004 Ford Ranger - Great truck, if vehicle size is a concern.

I purchased the 2004 Ford Ranger from a classmate from high school. I drove it for a few years before the transmission gave out. The vehicle was pure white body color. The vehicle had the benefit of being small while also have a pickup truck body. Therefore I could haul heavy things in it and still have no problems parking or storing the vehicle anywhere. The transmission went out which could have been due to previous ownership rather than an inherent defect in the vehicle. The gas mileage was decent despite it being a truck. I felt it could have been better but I also would haul trailers with it and would drive it rough so that contributed to a lesser than expected gas mileage. The tradeoff for the size of the vehicle was that the passenger and driver compartments had limited room. T... (more)
Story
I was able to haul a boat with it to go on a fishing trip with friends. The boat was attached to a trailer which was hauled no problem with the vehicle. It wasn't a big boat, just a boat to go fishing on a lake. Overall I would do this experience again.
Pros
Could haul trailers and hold heavy objects in the bed of the truck. Decent gas mileage for being a truck.
Cons
Transmission went out which was the only con of the vehicle I could think of.

The Ford Ranger is an excellent truck. I have put over 230,000 miles on it and it's still running strong. There are no rattles and it is as solid as it was back when it was new. I have had no issues with anything on the truck. As long as you complete the scheduled maintenance and checkups the Ford Ranger will last you a long time. The interior is definitely dated as this truck is almost 20 years old. I have upgraded the stereo so I can play music off of my phone and I had to replace the speakers in the door of the truck as they blew out a few years back. Other than that, this has been the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned and I would highly recommend it to anyone. The fuel economy is not up to par with newer vehicles and you will receive lower performance if you are not keeping... (more)
Story
When I bought my motorcycle out of state, I hauled it home with this truck!
Pros
The pros to this vehicle are hauling capacity, the bed of the truck, the reliability of the truck (230,000+ miles and still going), and the resale value.
Cons
The cons to this truck are its poor fuel economy and it is getting pretty old. You'd be better off with a newer vehicle!

The salesman worked with our family ALL day, despite it being a busy day at the dealership. We almost bought a different car, but after finding out the final purchase price and what the monthly payment would be for the original car we were considering, we switched over to considering a different vehicle, which we ended up buying. Our last minute change of mind after a long day of help did not frustrate the salesman, and I would highly recommend working with this understanding, patient man again.

My salesman was friendly and was not overly pressuring like many car salesmen are. He told us he was new to the dealership, and I have since learned he no longer works there. He was exactly the kind of car salesman I would want, but I can see how him not being overly pushy would not help him in an environment where that is expected of you.
