Ford Ranger Owner Ratings & Reviews

2008 Ford Ranger - Does what I need.
I need a truck for my line of work and prefer not to have to drive any of the gas guzzling large models which are being pushed by automakers. The Ford Ranger was discontinued a few years ago but they are still fairly common and easy to find and they are one of the last of the small pickup trucks that are available in the US market.
Story
Being a very light truck it gets stuck in snow and ice very easily. Most of the memorable stories I recall revolve around being stuck and how I eventually escaped.
Pros
As a small truck I am able to haul loads of construction materials while still driving a vehicle which gets me around 18 MPG. I am also able to fit in standard size parking spaces and do not feel like I tower above everything around me.
Cons
The bed on the truck is fairly short so when I carry things that are 8 feet long such as standard lumber or plywood, the items will hang a few feet off of the back of the truck. They have to be securely tied down and I have to drive slowly and carefully. Another beef I have is that the automatic transmission in the model I have is notorious for developing a slip after 40 or 50,000 miles. The case of the transmission gets a wear depression worn into it causing pressure from the servo to escape around it and thus causes slippage of the gears. This is a design flaw and is unavoidable and cost... (more)
1999 Ford Ranger - Reliable and great value
This 1999 Ranger has been my best friend in a truck. It is reliable, sturdy, and enjoyable to drive. It helped me get to my 20 mile commute for 9 years, helped me build my backyard shed, and move my first daughter into school. It's a fun solo ride but can be used for many other purposes. I truly enjoyed it. It is made for someone who needs to haul lots of crap but enjoys the rugged adventure of a ranger. Gas mileage was okay, but it's a sturdy truck, so it's not a Prius. All of the handling is great, look is great (mine was red), and it lasted me a good amount of years, for which I sold it to my teenage neighbor .
Story
I ran over a deer and kept it in the back! I absolutely cherished this moment because most people could barely haul a suitcase, let alone a deer.
Pros
Look, strength, snow driving, haul driving, solo driving, reliable, and cheap fixes.
Cons
Not enough room and sometimes broke in quick succession.
