2000 Ford Ranger - Go With A Ford
We bought this Ford Ranger because it is an extended cab, which we thought would be the ideal size. Not too large and not too compact. Now that our child is now a teen, we realize we now need a crew cab.
This truck has been extremely dependable over the years, with very few problems.

Getting stuck in the snow. Was sure we were stuck for good. No snow tires or chains. Our truck managed to get out of the stuck spot and got us almost all the way home before getting stuck again.

Good gas mileage, extended cab feature makes grocery shopping easier. No worrying about groceries flying out of the bed or getting wet from rain storms.
Being 15 years old now, it is beginning to rattle and make interior noises.

The only negative thing I can think of about this truck is the extended cab. We've outgrown it and would like to consider trading it in for a crew cab truck, staying with Ford.

2000 Ford Ranger - Dependable But Rough
I like my truck well enough. It's not too big and not too small. It matches my personality. It has the capability to get work done but sleek enough to have a fun side too.
The ride is a little bumpy and the turn radius isn't that great, but it's mine. It's 14 years old and still kicking with (mostly) original parts. It's gotten me to work and back with no problem. There's almost 170k miles on this truck and it's still kicking along. Now I am worried that it's going to give out on me after saying that. I really hope I didn't jinx myself. I'm going to knock on wood. SPEAKING OF WOOD, there is no wood paneling on this truck, which is great.
I've been able to help some of my friends move (and lied to others that I couldn't). You know how when you get a truck, you just KNOW everyone is ... (more)

I've been able to help some of my friends move (and lied to others that I couldn't). You know how when you get a truck, you just KNOW everyone is going to come to you with requests to help you move? It's like... all of a sudden, they all come out of the wood work. The plus side to that is there's ALWAYS free beer to be had after helping someone move. So there's another plus.
A favorite memory of mine with this truck is a story involving alcohol (designated driver here). My friend hopped out at a red light and started dancing to the music in my truck.
There were people around and someone ran into the street to join him. Soon enough, it was a red light dance party and I was the DJ. This went on until the light changed and everyone dispersed. There must have been... (more)

I know it sounds like a lot for being stopped at a red light, but this was in downtown on a Saturday night. There were a lot of people along the side walk of that street. I just realized none of that is helpful to the story...
One of features that I love about this truck is how compact, yet accessible it is. It's a perfect date truck. It also fits into most small spaces. It doesn't take up an entire parking space and then some, which leads to people thinking you're a jerk. But you're not. You're just a guy that want's to get some groceries.
The mpg is pretty good as well. I've been able to last quite a while on a half tank of gas. That being doable in THIS economy? Fahgit about it. Now I sound Italian, don't I? Well, I'm not. Sorry to disappoint.

I absolutely love the upholstery. I mean, this thing is such a boring shade of grey that you forget it's there and just see clean lines. Not a stain on it, which is weird because it's such a great truck for dates...
It's also quite easy to do maintenance on, which is nice. I mean... I don't even have to do that much to change something like some cars. My friend has a Voltzwagen and boy, it took 3+ guys just to get up in there.
There's some bugs I to pick with this truck, and none of them are on the grill. Like I said before, the turn radius is atrocious. Sometimes I have to make a 'K' turn on a street because I don't my tires going all, "HULK SMASH", on the curb.
Also as previously stated, the ride is rough. It's like you can feel every crevice of the rode. The alternator gave out a few years back and I needed to get wrist deep to change it, but I guess I can't hold that against the truck. It's a shame there isn't more space in the cabin though. I would like the option to pick up more than one lady at a time, ... (more)

I would like the option to pick up more than one lady at a time, but so far I haven't convinced more than a solo seductress to squeeze on in there. This also makes "sausage fest" situations uncomfortable because guys don't care about piling in a car...but please no thigh touching.
There's also a lack of mirrors in the sun visors. It's uncomfortable and awkward checking if I look good in the rear view mirror.
