2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid - Early adopter to hybrid with no regrets
My 2010 Ford Fusion has been the best car I've ever owned. It performs like a gas vehicle, with the added bonus of hybrid-level mileage. I have never had any problems with its performance. The car also has remarkable technology that I believe was ahead of its time. The car is nine years old and has only started feeling outdated in the last year or so.
Story
For car camping, this car was a godsend. It has a full-size electrical outlet in the rear seat, and we used it as a giant generator for many camping trips. The car would turn its own engine on and off as necessary to power our electrical extension cord. The engine was quieter than the generators other camping parties used, and I believe we used a lot less fuel.
Pros
The car has a 17-gallon gas tank, which coupled with mileage in the high 30s, leads to a tank of gas lasting almost 600 miles. I have a very short commute, so I only buy gas about five times a year. This is remarkable. The car has a large touchscreen, digital dashboard, Ford Sync, full-color rearview camera, and power everything. It feels like a very modern car with a thoughtful, state of the art design.
Cons
The hybrid battery is positioned between the rear seat and the trunk. This means the trunk is slightly shallower than in other comparable sedans, and the rear seat does not split or fold down for larger cargo. This has been a minor inconvenience when traveling or moving large items. The built-in GPS navigation can only be updated with VIN-specific DVDs available at a premium price only from Ford. Later models of the Fusion have much cheaper nav updates.
2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid - Happy owner
Absolutely the nicest car I have ever owned. Not the sportiest thing in the world, but it will get up and move if you step on it. It is a hybrid after all. Well mannered in town and on the highway. Fit and finish is good. Primary car in our family, and it gets used. Drives like new. Very happy.
Story
We like to visit wineries. We can tour most of the state on a single tank of gas. More money for wine!
Pros
Outstanding gas mileage. We are getting 44+ mpg. On a daily commute, can get two weeks on a tank of gas. Fit and finish is fine. Quiet on the highway. Comfortable, unless you are a large person. Has been very reliable, at nearly 50k miles.
Cons
A little tight for bigger people. The previous generation Fusion (we have one of those too) was more roomy. Doesn't look special anymore. Most four-door sedans these days look the same. Makes it harder to find in a parking lot.
