2011 Ford Focus - Great reliable car with perks
This four-door sedan is an excellent family car. The trunk is generous, and the back seats fold down to allow for more and versatile storage. This model has power drivers seat and heated seats, which have been a lifesaver in the winter. The seats are comfortable, and the dash layout intuitive and easy-to-read. It also has a little perk of LED trim lighting, which has a color you can change at will. Satellite radio and the SYNC Bluetooth connection allow for voice calls and auxiliary audio through the car speakers. Ford regularly makes SYNC firmware updates for this model, as well. My model has a sunroof which has performed well and without leaks. This model has a recall on the airbags, so make sure it has seen a dealer in the last two years for that update. For a four cylinder, the eng... (more)
Story
My kid told me they'd rather have this car than my husband's Mustang because "I can haul more of my friends around, and the console makes more sense."
Pros
Leg room in back seat is adequate for a car of this size. Comfortable seats. Amenities for this model and price are surprising. Excellent trunk space for a car of this size. This four-door car is spacious for its size, but it's also easy to parallel park in the city.
Cons
Unexpected repairs on minor features that happened early on: the windshield wiper fluid tube came unhooked from the hood and refuses to stay glued, squirting fluid all over the engine instead. Two rows of the rear windshield defrost stopped working. Blown rear speaker when no one blasted the radio.
2012 Ford Focus - The best cheap car under 10k
We bought the 2012 Ford Focus for approximately 8k. It was in perfect condition, electric start, several speakers, and a hatchback. It ran smoothly, got great gas mileage, and has survived a crash with no problem.
Story
When we first got it, it was push to start, and we couldn't figure out how to turn it on. We spent about 10 minutes in the dealership parking lot trying to figure it out.
Pros
The sound is amazing. The volume goes way louder than ever needed, and it can hook up to your phone via Bluetooth for better listening. It gets 36mpg, and no cap to the gas tank.
Cons
The power steering is electric and hard and expensive to fix should there be an issue. The gas tank only holds 10 gallons, so even though it gets great mileage, you still have to fill it up routinely. Ice covers the rear sensor so sometimes when you back up it screams for no reason.
