The 2006 Ford Explorer XLS will surprise you the moment you hit the gas pedal. For a V6 SUV, it feels like you're driving a small, 4 cylinder car. Don't get the wrong idea. This truck packs lots of punch. From the standard tow package and smooth handling, to the spacious trunk space and interior, there's plenty to love about this SUV. It's not without it's faults though. The wheel bearings tend to wear out easily, and at $460 per wheel hub, it is pricey to repair. The EVAP canister solenoid is a nuance as well, causing fuel pressure to give you headaches at the gas pump. Overall, this truck is a very good investment. Just be prepared for these repairs down the road.

Taking a road trip to Savannah, GA after purchasing the vehicle.
Pros
Standard tow package is a great addition. Smoothest handling for a midsize SUV that I've ever experienced. Very roomy. Perfect for a 4-5 person household.
Cons
Wheel bearings wear out easily and are pricey to repair. EVAP system headaches. Poorish gas mileage, but standard for an SUV.
