The vehicle mentioned has a V8. Has the Eddie Bower trim. It just reached 100k miles. Mechanically it has only been in the shop twice. The most significant repair was the radiator. I like the room, especially the third row to haul around the kids and their friends. The interior is fairly nice, but I would say the leather is on the cheaper side.
Story
We got stuck in the canyon because the road was closed. We spent 4 hours sitting in the car in sub freezing temps. We had the car for two days. We watched a couple movies as a family during the experience.
Pros
The vehicle is has a good looking exterior. The third row seats has been convenient to haul people and when we fold them down we are able to put our kids 6' kayaks in the back. With the V8 motor it has always had plenty of power. It has dual climate control and heated seats. Also has entertainment system.
Cons
First, I wish it got better gas mileage. Of course, the repair on the radiator costs a few hundred dollars. The stereo is ok, but it should be a lot better for the trim it has. Light colored leather seats do not hold up well to little kids. It does seem to have some blind spots that you need to be aware of. The side view mirrors are pretty small. Also, the rims are just plastic on the outside. They scrape easily. We have heard the transmissions aren't great in the 2006 edition, though we haven't had a problem yet. Seems like we are just waiting for one, because of the rumors we have heard.

We have had our Ford Explorer for over three years. It is a great little runaround vehicle for going around town, or even if you have to drive on the highway. If you can keep the transmission in good condition, you are set! The interior of the car is in pristine condition, even though we have used it continuously and poorly. The interior condition of the Explorer is just that high quality!
Story
We took the Ford Explorer hunting for deer and elk and we were afraid of stinking up the car, so we took it home to get the truck instead.
Pros
One thing I like about our Ford Explorer is that it is a great runaround vehicle in town. It has a great turn radius for getting in and our of tight spaces and parking lots. The car also has a great braking system and a lot of get up and go. The heater and the air conditioner work great as well.
Cons
A few things went wrong with the vehicle when we purchased it at 100,000 miles. The transmission completely went out and we had to spend $3000 to get a brand new transmission put into the car. The wiring harness inside the door also went out and we have replaced the battery on the car three times in two years (15,000 miles for three batteries).
