2011 Ford Explorer - This car is very sharp looking, has lots of great features, gets great gas mileage and is roomy enough for my family of five.
I really love the features of this car, including the Bluetooth radio connectivity, navigation system and more. I do not like how there are glitches in this system, however. At times, it appears that the automatic updates do not occur, which can bog down the system and create errors when trying to stream music from other devices to my car's sound system. Overall, this car was a great purchase. It drives very nice and has plenty of room for my family of five. One of the features that I love about my vehicle is that it has captain's chairs in the second row, allowing my older son to pass through the seats where my other two sons sit in car seats without requiring me to move their seats.
Story
I love to drive the vehicle around with my children in my town of Fredericksburg, IA with the windows down, singing along to our favorite songs. My 1 1/2 year old son loves to have the windows rolled down so he can stick his arms out and feel the air over them.
Pros
The captain's chairs in the second row. The sound system. Navigation. Bluetooth radio.
Cons
Electrical issues. Many recalls.
1998 Ford Explorer - Great used vehicle!
This is a reliable, used SUV. It has 200,000+ highway miles but starts every time. It is roomy and comfortable with enough space for my three young children.
Story
I was driving on a snow and icy night a couple of years ago and slid into the ditch. Because of the four-wheel drive on this vehicle, I was able to drive right out of the ditch and get safely to my destination.
Pros
It was cheap. It was reliable. It was roomy.
Cons
It is old, has high miles, and does have some rust.
