The 2002 Ford Explorer may seem like a car of the past, but it has its presence. It features comfortable seating to the third row and plenty of storage space. A high POV provides excellent visibility, and the four-wheel drive makes it a great all-weather vehicle.
Story
I took my first adult road trip to New Orleans in my Explorer. I had never been on vacation alone, and on the way we made countless stops, and even took a nap in the comfortable front seats.
Pros
Storage space. The boxy interior is extremely useful in providing ample storage for any need you may have. You can move a whole college dorm room with this one vehicle or bring construction materials home for your next project. In the rare event the back fills up, there is also a roof rack which comes in handy. Ease of repair. The parts are relatively easy to find and the car, while large in size, has many straightforward repairs.
Cons
Fuel economy. By 2019 standards, the fuel economy of this car is honestly awful. You can expect 14-17 mpg on average, which is half of most SUVs today. Age and depreciation. This car is nearly 20 years old, and while it has stood the test of time for the most part, not all cars are made to last that long. This vehicle has had a few issues in that regard.
