Ford Explorer Owner Ratings & Reviews

2006 Ford Explorer - Great Family Vehicle
This was the best vehicle we ever owned. We bought it when we found out we were having twins because we knew we would need the extra storage room for all their items we would be transporting around. We purchased it brand new and owned it for 7 years. We loved it so much that we recently traded it in for another brand new Explorer. I really loved the third row seating option that we picked. This was great if we wanted to have a few extra people with us and when we didn't have extra people, we could drop it down and just have a big storage area in the back. I also loved that the temperature controls could be different for the people in the front seats versus the people in the back seats. We never had any repairs beyond normal wear and tear and upkeep maintenance. I don't have many... (more)
Pros
Third row seating, Separate temperature controls for front and back passengers, Automatic everything, Never had any repairs beyond normal maintenance, Backseat perfect for two car seats, Love that all back seats can be dropped for additional open space, and gas mileage was actually pretty impressive for an SUV (average over 16 mpg).
Cons
The biggest thing I didn't like is that we didn't purchase it with the 4wd option. Living in a snowy state, that would have been very valuable. I also wish that the back passengers had more leg room.
2001 Ford Explorer - Long Lasting, Great in Winter
This car has 180,000 miles on it and is still going strong. Original spark plugs lasted 130,000 miles-- I couldn't believe it. The windshield is a little low, and I prefer one that goes up about two inches higher, and the car runs a little rough in extreme heat, but those are the only two bad things I can say about it. It runs great in the winter-- the battery in this car is strong, and it starts right up even in negative temperatures. It's a pretty car, functional, and comfortable. There's a ton of room in the hatch and the front and rear seats are both roomy. There's more leg room in this car than most other cars at this price point. Gas mileage is wonderful. Radiator hoses, spark plugs, and CV shafts needed replaced between 120k and 150k, which is common on any car. Parts co... (more)
Story
I was driving by the lake and a bird died, fell, and fell through the windshield (like a 30 pound bird, not a song bird). Windshield held good enough for me to get it off the highway to be replaced, but it was quite the Easter anti-miracle.
Pros
Great gas mileage, lots of leg room, easy handling.
Cons
There aren't enough cup holders, and large drinks don't fit in the cup holders. The heater makes a noise on level one, but doesn't do it on other levels.
