2005 Ford Explorer - Strong like my Explorer.
It's a good, all-around multi-purpose vehicle. Tows good. The V-8 has good get up and pulling power. Not flashy, but looks good. 4x4 works great. Seats 6 adults comfortably... 7 if you squeeze.
Story
Loaded the Explorer full. Took the family camping in Michigan's U.P. for a week. Logged lots of hills and trails. Always made it to where we were going. DVD player got a lot of use too. Didn't skip on the bumps.
Pros
I love the DVD player for my kids on trips. The dual climate controls are surprisingly nice and work great with my always cold wife. The 4.6L V-8 is pretty peppy, and I get 18-20 hwy mpg. depending on speed. 3rd-row seating is a great option to have, hauling family and friends around. Like my factory block heater for the cold winters.
Cons
I am not a fan of the "Auto 4x4." I wish it had a 2-high option instead. When the rear tires slip, the 4x4 engages hard, which sometimes I feel like I'll see the transfer case behind me when I'm driving.
1998 Ford Explorer - An awesome sport SUV.
A handy SUV to haul equipment so could double as a work truck, but this vehicle has enough room in it to fit the entire family and then some. No worries in winter weather with four-wheel high and low. A good country truck. A good city truck. Looks great and runs with great proficiency.
Story
My first gig. I hauled everything that we needed to play that night. Not only was it a first gig, it was in the middle of February in Wisconsin with about four feet of snow on the roads. It did outstanding, was easy to drive, and I got to my gig on time!
Pros
Four-wheel drive. Large back end to load many things at time. Awesome hauling capability with a trailer hitch. Fold down seats. Plenty of room.
Cons
Unable to disable the anti-theft which can cause a few problems after years of use. Will go off on its own at strange times by itself.
