1995 Ford Explorer - Cheap for Luxury - Expensive on Gas.
In general, I like my Eddie Bauer Ford Explorer. I don't care much about style of a car - unless it is horrifically ugly, and thankfully my Explorer is not. Despite my car's age, it has many luxury features that modern cars do not have. I am short (~5'1) and I don't think I could drive such a large vehicle if it were not for all of the seat controls. I can move my seat up and down, tilt it forwards or backwards, control the cushioning, along with all other typical features. Basically, I can adjust the seat specifically and exactly to suit my needs. The Explorer currently has almost 190,000 miles on it and it is still going strong. My parents bought the Explorer to tow their boat before passing the vehicle onto me. Most of the repairs that it has ever needed were due to the neglect the ... (more)
Story
I have used the 4 wheel drive of my Explorer to take advantage of parking lots at school. The university I attend is overcrowded and money hungry, spending the tuition on whatever-the-hell instead of paving the sad, gravel parking lots. One time, every gravel space was taken up. So, I parked in the grass where any other car would have gotten stuck - but not mine!
Pros
My favorite features about my Ford Explorer were all of the luxury controls. Like I stated earlier, I can move the seats in so many different ways – modern cars don’t have that. Also, my Explorer's steering wheel is great. It has cruise control on the left side and volume, temperature, radio/cd/tape controls on the right. Having so many basic controls on the steering wheel allows me to focus on the road while I'm driving, instead of tinkering with the dashboard. And have I mentioned HEATED SEATS?! Heated seats are AWESOME, and my Explorer has them. Heated seats are an absolute godsend duri... (more)
Cons
While I love my Ford Explorer, it does have some issues. I only get 17 miles per gallon and I commute to school. Needless to say, gas is expensive. The radio panel lights have gone out – I never know what radio station I am listening to or what time it is. The back window wiper blade does not entirely reach the whole window for some reason – it only cleans/wipes half of it. I have replaced the blade, but I think the problem is in the arm of the wiper. Also, the air is hinky. I cannot control the strength of the air flow – it does not respond to any of the fan controls. The air flow (hot or... (more)
1995 Ford Explorer - It was comfortable, had lots of room, fun, descent on gas, overall a great vehicle.
The Ford Explorer is a great SUV. Tons of room, 4-wheel drive goes everywhere, comfortable smooth ride. Will pull a fully loaded trailer with ease. Great for bigger people
Story
Took it to Maryland on vacation a few years back. Toured all of Baltimore and Washington DC. Not a problem the whole time. Seats were so comfortable I didn't even realize I'd been sitting for hours.
Pros
Great for a family.
Eddie Bauer Edition had nice leather seats and a sun roof.
Lots of room for everything from groceries to family and friends, to pets. Great acoustics. Always a smooth ride, even in 4-wheel drive.
Powerful vehicle, goes everywhere I need it. Pulls several tons via trailer with ease, even going up hills. Fun to drive off-road! 4-wheel drive kicks in very quickly and is automatic.
Cons
Gas Mileage wasn't great. Default sound system wasn't that great either. I did not like the color of the leather, it is light tan. The sun roof isn't power, it's manual, but no big deal.
