Ford Explorer Owner Ratings & Reviews

2007 Ford Explorer - Solid car for a high schooler just learning to drive.
This vehicle was a very solid choice for my first car. The trim was nice and looked very stylish. We added an aux cord which really made it great. I enjoyed the size of the car. It's not too small, not too big. It made for a great road trip car. The seats could fold down which was nice. Unfortunately, we had problems with the radiator and transmission, apparently common for these cars. It spent several nights in the shop. That comes with the territory of a used car though. I enjoyed the display of the radio/buttons as well. It wasn't the most fuel efficient car but wasn't horrible at the pump. I owned the car for almost seven years before we sold it to someone else. The interior started to get worn with age. One specific thing that always came up when someone was riding in the passenge... (more)
Story
I remember driving my friends around the city (Austin, Texas) with the windows down and listening to the radio. It's a special car for me, because it was my first car I got to call my own!
Pros
Best thing about this car for me was its size. It could easily load anything in the trunk and have room for friends in the backseat to sit comfortably.
Cons
We had to spend quite a bit of time and money on radiator and transmission a few years down the line.
2013 Ford Explorer - Satisfactory results at a good price.
I like that sporty design of the car, which was its primary appeal to me. It seems to have been a great update in styling from the previous models of the Ford Focus. It is comfortable enough, but comfort was not much of a factor in my decision as much as driving ease/enjoyment and price were. For such a small car it has a great deal of room once the seats are folded down, and I have been able to move all of my belongings without having to rent a truck, which is very nice.
Story
I took a road trip in this vehicle which were a lot of fun because the car is fun to drive, and when I fold down the seats I am able to lie down almost completely straight in the back. This cabin space was a major influence in my decision to buy this vehicle, as stated earlier. It is good to know that I am able to camp out of my car if I need to or if I'd like to save a few bucks on a motel or... (more)
Pros
My favorite feature of this vehicle is its sportiness. The sportiness is reflected both in the vehicle's sleek styling and also its responsiveness when being driven, which makes the car fun to drive even if it is not the fastest or best performing car in the market, even at its price range. I test drove many other small hatchbacks that were in the same price range and vehicle class as my car, and chose this one because I had more fun driving it than I did driving its competition (Kia Forte, Nissan Versa, Mazda 3). The other best feature of this car involves space--it is very easy to rearra... (more)
Cons
My complaints are relatively minor but I do have a few complaints. My first complaint may be an error on the dealership's part and in their poor service, but I noticed some grating sounds coming from the vehicle when I first bought it, and though I have repeatedly been assured that the vehicle would stop making this noise (after 1000 miles, then after 5 and 10,000 miles) it has not stopped. I do not know who to blame for this. As I do not know much about cars I cannot really tell if this is affecting the performance of my vehicle, though I think that it probably is. Another small complaint... (more)
