2000 Ford Explorer Owner Ratings & Reviews
Write a Review
2000 Ford Explorer - It has been a dependable vehicle.
I like the way my vehicle runs and acts. I have had to do some work to it but it runs smooth and handles smooth.
Story
I have had to move a lot of people and it will take me to where I need to go with driving distance one time when I had to make an emergency trip to another state.
Pros
Dependable
Cons
The things I do not like about it is that sometimes it will take a little bit to get up the hill or road sometimes but I think that is because of the transmission.
2000 Ford Explorer - Comfortable and useful
I got 250,000 miles out of my last car (the same year and model) and hope to get the same out of this one. With regular maintenance this SUV works great as a highway and off-road driver. The interior is durable and meets my needs, as I like to haul firewood and other messy things in the back. I am not impressed with the rearview mirror. It relies entirely on electricity to activate a dimmer. I prefer the old fashioned lever to tilt the mirror. Also, the cruise control buttons have just about disintegrated. The buttons are made of some kind of wax material and they have softened/melted in the heat of the high desert where I live. One side of the cruise control console has recently broken away from the steering wheel. I have plenty of room to sleep in the back (along with my gear) when... (more)
Story
The last time I used it off road I had to drive in and out the same ten mile road 12 times (four times in the dark). Every single person who planned to meet me for rock climbing got lost! I had to drive out and lead them in. This car worked great on the rugged, unmaintained, dirt road.
Pros
This SUV is just large and spacious enough for me, without being a road hog and gas guzzler. I like being able to sleep in the back while camping and can tow a tent trailer with ease. It can comfortably seat four passengers. Parts for this car are readily available at local parts stores and reasonably priced. It handles rugged dirt roads well (2WD) but does not have a locking differential.
Cons
This 2WD version of the Ford Explorer does not come with a locking differential, so when the tires start to slip, you basically are driving a 1WD. This is the biggest problem with this car. There is no passenger side grab handle above the window.
