2004 Ford Explorer Sport Trac Owner Ratings & Reviews
Write a Review
2004 Ford Explorer Sport Trac - It is a good looking vehicle that stands up to the test of time.
This vehicle performs well in all climates because it has four wheel drive. The design has a very nice sporty look to it and the bed cover is a nice feature as it is removable. The bed however is short and you can't really haul anything too big in it. Rear passenger seating is adequate and comfortable with plenty of leg room. Front seating also has plenty of leg room. For fuel economy it does as well as any other full size truck. The truck seems to be reliable enough, as I drive it back and forth to work every day. The running boards don't seem wide enough or don't have enough traction hold, as I almost slipped off of it while stepping down on it. Electric, Adjustable, Leather seats make for comfortable seating. Contour of the seats doesn't seem adequate because they don't support my b... (more)
Story
We all went camping in it and shortly got stuck in the mud. It was fun spinning around for a while, but we quickly got out because of the four wheel drive.
Pros
One of the top features is both the sporty and practical design of this vehicle. It looks very nice and trendy on the outside and has many nice features on the inside. The XLT model has all the features you would expect on a luxury vehicle. It has cruise control, delayed wipers, electric doors, windows, and seat. The front seats are also heated, which is very nice in the winter. They install the top of the line stereo systems in these, as the sound is very good and what you would expect from the Pioneer Brand. The seats are electric and can be adjusted down, up, forward, and backward to ge... (more)
Cons
Of course this vehicle is not one of the latest models, so you have to do without a dashboard navigation system. If you want to haul anything big you can't because the bed is too short. By big I mean like a sheet of plywood or something because of shortness. You can haul larger items if you had a trailer to haul behind it. You can adjust the seats with the electric controls, but the contour of the seats just doesn't seem adequate enough to support your back. The compass and temperature displays on these vehicles seem to wear out too quickly. Leather is not the most comfortable material to ... (more)
2004 Ford Explorer Sport Trac - Pretty reliable but, eats away at gas.
Pretty reliable but eat away at gas. The truck itself is pretty slick for a truck from '04. We have driven the majority of the time trouble free, but once we hit around the 110,000 - 125,000 mile marker, we started running into some issues, which is normal repairs that come with age. And despite the infamous transmission and tailgate cracking, we have encountered neither -- but are aware that the problems exist. I would definitely purchase another one without hesitation. It's definitely a vehicle you will enjoy and want to keep.
Story
One memory would be going out to the mall with family in the winter time. I remember coming from a toy store then getting stuck in traffic. Because some of the other cars where stuck in the snow. Fortunately, it's a pretty good truck when it comes to the road. Granted, they were compact cars though. We eventually got home safe, and that all it comes down to the cars.
Pros
Reverse sensing system (RSS). Power adjustable pedals. Power sunroof. Single DVD overhead monitor. Second row captains chairs w/ console. Third row seating.
Cons
One improvement would be the seat quality. The leather seems to wear prematurely but can be fixed or replaced to a new/like new condition. Also, the seat padding for the back is a little thin for the front compared to other vehicles in its class. (Mechanical) One improvement would be to put a serviceable transmission back in the vehicle. But you can modify (with instructions) on how to change the fluid and service it anyways. It will cost around a $100 for the tools and labor needed.
