I like the Explorer pretty well, it's the first SUV I've owned and I wouldn't go back to driving a small car after my experience. I like how it handles but it's had to have a lot of work since I've gotten it, which is to be expected from driving it about 100,000 miles since it was purchased and most through no fault of how it was made (ea.. A toddler shoved a pencil into the air conditioner vents and I needed to fix it so it would change from a/c to heat again). I would like some work done to the interior, updating the stereo system, etc. The air conditioner vent has been lose and won't stay in position since I've gotten it. When I was looking to buy the car I test drove another Explorer and ultimately decided to get the one I got because of a large crack on the back of the other one. ... (more)
Story
I do a fun scavenger hunt every year that benefits a charity, one of the items this year was to build a raft from water bottles and take it out on a lake or river. I used my vehicle to haul it to a local river/popular swimming area with a friend and ended up going through some pretty tough back roads to get there. Another time for the same scavenger hunt we hauled a birds nest that was 5 ft in... (more)

This vehicle that I have is a very dependable vehicle. I bought it as just a way to get around basically but even though it has more than 200,000 miles and I've put around 15,000 miles on it, it still runs great. I've done a lot of maintenance on small things but the main things, such as the engine, have yet to give me problems. You can comfortably fit 5 people in there with lots of room for everyone.
Story
One Friday night we piled up a bunch of wooden pallets in the storage space behind the seats and we went up this old, not well maintained road until finally we reached the top. We had a great bonfire and a great experience with the truck, it worked well and got us where we wanted to go.
Pros
The build is well made. There are no interior rattles and nothing has fallen apart. The electronics still work great, all of the automatic windows except for one still go up and down and the radio still works. The car accelerates quickly and can get up to a very quick speed. There is a lot of space in the back compartment for storage, like a lot of space. You can fit a lot of things in there and it's very useful if you have a lot of luggage to bring somewhere.
Cons
The fuel economy isn't great it only get between 15 and 17 miles per gallon even no matter how I drive it, though it did get 23 on the very long road trip to and from Michigan. Another con is that the car is somewhat top heavy so it seems not very stable when turning and I worry that if I turn too quickly it might flip over. Also the wheel bearing are very hard to replace on this vehicle, there is some sort of little key piece in the bearing that is very hard to take out, it took me a good 3 hours to get it out for whatever reason.

My Ford Explorer is definitely dated and it's the older style "boxy" look. The newer style explorers mimic a mini-van look an I am just "not ready" for that style SUV. I love the safety features and since my car is older, compared to the newer vehicles, you can see what is "standard vs. upgrade" in 2017. But when driving on the interstate, the back end of the vehicle tends to be light, so it tends to push you around once you get the hang of it.
Story
It was the first new vehicle that I bought when I brought my first born son home from the hospital. He was born, he was safe, the vehicle was new and I was a new mom. I couldn't be more happy!
Pros
I love all the bells and whistles that are preferences such as the volume control for the radio on the steering wheel. I also appreciate the front and rear blower control for the heater/ac. I really love the safety feature of as soon as you take the car out of park, all 4 doors lock. Also, it has the keypad on the drivers door, therefore I can not lock my keys in the vehicle.
Cons
The battery life in my vehicle seems to be an issue, it just tends to burn out quicker than most newer vehicles. The moon roof is a great addition to the vehicle, although it doesn't matter the seal around the window, if the rain is heavy, it will leak. In my explorer, the ball joints in the front tires tend to be in need of repair a lot. Also, the fuel pump has been replaced in my car 3 times since I have owned it.
