2003 Ford Escape - Good for small family if you can afford repairs often.
This vehicle sucks for a family. Needs repairs constantly and passenger area is cramped. Only good for groceries.
Story
I drove it from Michigan to Alabama with no A/C.
Pros
This vehicles hatchback is great for loading groceries. It is not that bad on gas. It is not too big and bulky. Good for a small family. You can use the latch system for car seats, which I think is safer.
Cons
Cramped inside. With a five-person family, there is just enough room for all of us. There is no storage and no space in the passenger area. The hatchback rusted out, and the back door is completely messed up. The glass part won't stay open, and once you close it, the door ajar light stays on until you hit a bump and it finally goes off. The handle on the back door doesn't work half the time, and the whole bottom of the door is rusted. The suspension keeps breaking, the gas system gets clogged really quickly. 2019 Ford Escape - Unexpected pleasure.
When my wife and I retired we traded in our two paid for vehicles and got a Subaru Outback. We had driven one at a trade show and we needed an all wheel drive vehicle for the area into which we moved. We loved the vehicle for the 3 years we had it leased. When the lease was up, our daughter recommended we go shopping at the Ford Dealer two towns over. We went there and the dealer treated us wonderfully and he had an on demand four wheel drive Ford Escape in the color we wanted. He sold it to us at invoice and arranged special financing at 0.99%, The Escape is only missing one or two features that were on the Outback (moonroof - which we found out we had only used twice) and a few other odds and ends - no passenger power seat. The vehicle is very quite and well finished. We love it!
Story
The vehicle is so very quiet that we can sneak up on the wildlife that crosses our road and observe them with no problem.
Pros
Many standard features and handles well and gets great mileage. Easily serviced locally.
Cons
There are not really any cons - nothing that irks us.
