2011 Ford Escape Hybrid - A good car that I am very sorry they discontinued
The Escape was a good vehicle. It was spacious enough for my kids, spouse and mother-in-law as well as luggage for road trips. It was comfortable enough to drive from the San Francisco Bay Area back to New Mexico without becoming fatigued from the vehicle itself. The gas mileage was excellent for an SUV, and the reliability was very good. The vehicle was small enough for maneuvering in the city but still large enough to fit everyone. The get up and go was good to allow for merges into traffic, but it still had good gas mileage. If you drove it correctly, you could stay on the battery very easily during city driving and improve your gas mileage even above what the MPG rating was.
Story
I took my children and their mother across to New Mexico to see my father before he passed. We got caught up in a very small thunder storm. In New Mexico, we used to get massive lightning storms, so this one was small. My kids were mesmerized by the flashes of lightning and ground shaking thunder. They were glued to the windows and would have missed it had they been in a sedan.
Pros
The best parts of the vehicle were the size ratio, gas mileage and reliability. We had very few problems whatsoever with the vehicle, and it still runs well, if a little beaten up, today.
Cons
The only place we could take the vehicle for maintenance was the dealership due to it being a hybrid. Likewise, we got the cloth seats, and they absorbed dirt and trash and became soiled insanely quickly and required constant detailing to keep looking anything but gross. We also wanted the 4WD package, but it would be significantly reduced the MPG in other circumstances, so we had to forego it. This would have been excellent to have.
2011 Ford Escape Hybrid - Great vehicle
We just love our Ford Escape Hybrid. The mileage has been excellent up to 30 mpg average in the warm months and 27 mpg in the colder months. Maintenance cost have been substantially less then expected. We have over 150,000 miles on the vehicle and have less then $3,000 total on maintenance in 6 years including tires. The vehicle handles well on the highway. We have taken 3 cross-country trips in all terrain and weather and no problems. There is plenty of legroom up front and plenty of storage in the back. The back seat may be a little tight if you are taller, but since we never use it, this is not a problem. We love the sound system as well as the navigation system that can be updated yearly if desired. Sirius satellite radio is also a nice feature to have in the rural areas of the cou... (more)
Story
We love driving this car cross country, and the money we save on gas, we spend on upscale restaurants.
Pros
Great mileage. Low maintenance costs. Roomy front seating.
Cons
We have had minor leaks around the rear hatch window. The seal has been replaced twice. Since the second time, no leaks.
