Ford E-150 Owner Ratings & Reviews
Write a Review
2003 Ford E-150 - Gets the job done
I have owned this Ford E-150 for several years and am very satisfied with the quality of the vehicle. I have had only 2 minor repairs and one major repair since over the past 7 years. My cost of ownership has been incredibly low, and if the need to purchase a new or even a second one arises I would not hesitate to purchase a similar model again.
Story
Aside from the work it has done for me, this van has allowed me to furnish my entire home with 2 cross-county trips. My girlfriend was amazed at the capacity of this beast and also my skill at using it to the fullest. Having spent most of the day driving the van and loading/unloading we were both still very comfortable in our seats the entire trip.
Pros
Adequate size, and ease of accessibility. Affordable, maintenance is easy and has excellent reliability. Forward and side visibility are excellent. Ride height and clearance are where they should be. Climate control is excellent even in extreme conditions. Controls are within reach and familiar. Plenty of cup holders for two occupants. Repairs are easy and affordable if needed.
Cons
The gas mileage is dismal at best. It is mostly underpowered and steering response is sluggish. Suspension is rough and sway is scary at times. Wind and road noise can be harsh and the factory sound system can barely drown it out at highway speeds.
1997 Ford E-150 - Reliable, lasting, strong.
I like the comfort of the vehicle. The seats are comfortable on long trips and never cause back or neck pain. I like the reliability of the vehicle. I have over 300,000 miles on it, and it still runs like a top with no issues what so ever. The paint and body are still in good condition after all this time. Really shows how well Ford designs their vehicles for them to last this long and have minimal issues. The gas mileage is about 15-20 mpg, which isn't too great according to today's standards. If there is one thing I would change, it would be for greater fuel economy. Other than that, I don't have much to complain about. Overall, I'd rate this vehicle 9 out of 10 for all-around performance and reliability. There aren't many '97 model vehicles on the road anymore, and this one... (more)
Story
I got stuck on the beach in Virginia one time, and I had to get another vehicle to push me out from behind. It was scary, but it worked out great.
Pros
The positive things about this vehicle for one is the capabilities of a truck. The option to go off-road or on the beach is a big plus for me, especially since I live very close to the ocean. Another benefit is the bed of the truck. It's very convenient for putting tools or bikes in the back for transportation. Another pro is the towing capabilities. This truck can tow small- to medium-sized trailers no problem and you hardly know they are back there. The bed is also a large plus for keeping the interior clean. Unlike with an SUV, the dirt and grime of things you are hauling remain i... (more)
Cons
The main thing I don't like about this vehicle is the fuel economy that comes along with owning a gas powered truck. Although there are many benefits to owning a truck instead of a car or SUV, the times when I'm not utilizing those features I wish the fuel economy was better. With about 15 or so mpg, it doesn't compete with newer vehicles and trucks on today's current market place. Another thing I don't like about this vehicle is the stock radio. Like most stock radios that come in older vehicles, the sound output seems under powered and muddy at times. Most people replace the stereo w... (more)
2000 Ford E-150 - Plenty of room and reliable.
I have been very pleased with my Ford E-150 custom van. Originally, it came with four bucket seats and a bench third row. I took out the two middle seats to give a lot of open space in the middle for my three Great Danes to move around. There is so much room for them. Behind the bench seat there is enough room for four large pieces of luggage with room to spare. The E-150 V6 is strong enough to pull a 28-ft. camper. It is fuel efficient for such a big van (about 15/18 MPG). As far as reliability, the van has nearly 170,000 miles with absolutely no mechanical issues ever. It's a Ford truck -- tough. It looks fancy on the outside, but inside, it's a rugged 150 Ford truck. All you need to do is keep the oil changed and tires rotated. The only issue I've had is finding P235/75/R15 tires at... Story
The first thing we did when we got the van was take our eight dogs with us to the beach in Florida. I was amazed at how much room the dogs had to walk around. When we stopped at a rest stop, a couple was parked next to us. They looked in amazement as I continued to bring one large dog after another out of the van to go pee. It was hilarious looking at their expressions...
Pros
The interior space of the E-150 van is superior, especially with the middle seats removed. I've even removed the rear bench seat and was able to haul a huge 8-ft. high x 4-ft. wide entertainment center inside with room to spare. Normally, I keep the middle seats out of the van to give my three Great Danes room to roam. The van is a elegant custom van. So, it has the nice custom side windows. These windows are great for the dogs and people too. When I put the middle seats back in, I take friends with us to sports events over the weekend. The captain chairs are extremely comfortable because ... (more)
Cons
The main problem with my Ford E-150 elegant custom van is the air conditioning/heating. Vans this size should come with dual air/heat. But mine does not. Even if the van was not a custom van, it would still have trouble effectively cooling and heating the entire van evenly (too cool up front while hot in the back). In the summer, it's very hard for anyone to sit on the bench seat in the back comfortably. Another issue is the V6 engine. Though it's a tough V6 strong enough to pull a 28-ft. camper up steep terrain, it struggles with passing power. A V8 would be better for this van, though yo... (more)
