1989 Ford Bronco - My Bronco
I bought this vehicle for two reasons. First was a bit of nostalgia. My Father owned a Bronco the first year they came out, so it was a bit of remembering the good times and wanting to share those with my kids. The other reason was for the benefits a four wheel truck would offer - being able to go off roading, go to the snow without fear of getting stuck, camping, or just long trips together. This Bronco offered room for my family, enough room for everything we wanted to bring, and comfort for my wife and I. It had a larger engine so I could tow anything I needed and that came in handy when I moved my kids into their college dorms. Gas mileage sucked, but that was expected with an 8 cylinder engine and I did not buy it for the mileage. It was the bigger Bronco, so I felt safe wh... (more)
Story
My family had lots of fun trips to the mountains to go skiing or camping. Loading up the Bronco (not necessarly unloading) became a family chore that we all did together. When my mom would visit from out of state it was a blast to let her drive it as her and my dad owned one of the first Broncos made. It brought back memories that we both could share with our kids.
Pros
Big, powerful engine
Roomy and comfortable seating
Great sound system
Great command of the roadway
Loved the midnight blue color
Nostalgia, even had to go out to lock the hubs
Towing package that assisted in towing large loads
Not fearful of other drivers on the road
Cons
Lousy paint job that pealed off and Ford did not fix it.
Cylinder on the right side was ill placed and overheated with time causing mild engine failure.
Initially had a bad floorboard that ended up on recall and fixed by Ford.
Expensive to maintain.
Terrible gas mileage.
1989 Ford Bronco - It does what it needs to do
I have now owned this truck for about 3 months and don't really have many problems with it. I really like that fact that even though it is 26 years old, it still gets pretty good gas mileage and still runs pretty well. I am not a big fan of where a lot of things were placed for the driver. The window switches are lower on the door panel and not easy to see at night, I really dislike the wiper switch being on the dash because you have to remove your hands from the steering wheel in order to turn them on/higher.
I do like the fact that I have an SUV so I can bring my kids around with me, but at the same time I can load my tools up and go out on a job in needed.
Pros
The removable backseat - Comes out very easily
The amount of windows and their size
The engine is easy to work on
Everything seems to be built well and plastic is soft as in most cars
Cons
There are no shoulder belts for the backseat.
The wiper switch is on the dash.
The window/lock switch is low and hard to see at night.
The seat belts don't lock as they should when pulled.
All motors in the truck are very slow.
