2005 Dodge Stratus Owner Ratings & Reviews

2005 Dodge Stratus - I love my Stratus.
I have a 2005 Maroon Dodge Stratus SXT two door coupe. This is the best car I have ever owned. What I love about this car is that it is durable, dependable, consistent, great on gas, and fast. The car may have 140,000 miles on it, but it still gets me to where I need to go in a reliable fashion. This car is still driving at a high level after a lot of miles.
Story
I remember racing my friend on a county road in this vehicle, getting it up to 105 MPG, and waving him goodbye as I passed him in my car.
Pros
The number one strength for this car is its fuel economy. It has a four cylinder engine and it gets 24 MPG in the city and 32 MPG on the highway. That is very efficient for a car made in 2005, and that has saved me a lot of money over the years. Since I commute 60 miles a day to work, this car has been a life saver. Secondly, the engine is great and does not rattle. The car still drives extremely well after 13 years, and there is no stuttering or rattling, but instead is a smooth drive. The next best thing is the cars reliability. I have never been stranded, stuck in snow, or otherwise let... (more)
Cons
The number one negative thing about this vehicle is it’s size. Since it is a two door coupe, you will have to squeeze people into the back if you want to fit them in. Secondly, it is low to the ground. Due to the style of the vehicle and tire size, it feels as if you’re driving extremely low to the ground, which can make driving awkward. Lastly, because if the previous two reason, it can be uncomfortable to drive and ride in. Due to the small size and proximity to the ground, it can feel like a tight squeeze.
2005 Dodge Stratus -
Overall, it's a pretty good vehicle. I've got over 160,000 miles on mine, and I've only had to take it in for unscheduled repairs twice. It squeaks and groans a little bit now, but at 12 years old that's not so much a problem as an eventuality. The interior is plain, but holds up well to years of use. It rides well in all conditions and weather types, including ice and snow.
Story
I was very confused the first time I had to jump a friend's car with mine. I couldn't, for the life of me, find the battery anywhere in the engine compartment. It took a quick check on the internet to find out that it was located in the wheel well. Every time the battery gets changed, you have to remove the tire to get to it.
Pros
If regularly maintained, it will run forever. I've had very few mechanical or electrical problems over the years, and nothing out of line for the age and mileage on the vehicle. To the contrary, actually. In any other car, I'd probably have had twice the mechanical issues I've had with this car. Though that's a good thing, since repairs are something of an issue. The battery life is actually rather good. Being sealed away in the wheel well means that contacts stay clean and the battery stays in better repair than out in the engine compartment.
Cons
Any sort of repairs that need to be done are difficult. The 6-cylinder engine fills basically the entire compartment, so everything else is sort of crammed in whatever space was left over. If any engine related work needs to be done, no matter how minor, it will probably need to go to the mechanic. That also means that everything will take a little longer than average to fix, so labor costs are a bit higher than you'd normally expect. Almost everything that can go wrong requires a lift to repair. You'll also need to set aside funds regularly for new tires. It eats through the front set at... (more)
