2005 Dodge Ram Pickup 2500 - Dependable and tough

I've had this vehicle for about 4 years and put almost 90k miles on it. It's been tough and durable the entire time. I use it both as a daily driving vehicle and to tow horse trailers. It does fine in both conditions, though sometimes it is too big to conveniently drive downtown in cities. While the gas mileage is not nearly as good as what you would get in a smaller vehicle, it's done well in all environments. The only recurring issues I've had is with the 4WD--I have had to do a lot of maintenance work on various parts of the drivetrain, and it seems to be the weak link. Fun to drive though and does great in rain/snow/etc.
Story
This truck has seen me through many moves, horse shows, and tailgating parties. I always get a ton of compliments on it!
Pros
This vehicle is tough and will go anywhere you put it. It's comfortable, for a big truck, and fun to drive. I have had to relatively little repair work (except for the 4WD components) and it has done a great job for its intended purpose (hauling horse trailers).
Cons
Gas mileage is not great, but that is not surprising. The version I have does not have power locks or windows or cruise control, which would be nice features to have. I have had to do a lot of work on the 4WD drivetrain components.

2005 Dodge Ram Pickup 2500 - Truck overall is great, but the transmission is junk.

This truck is a diesel 4-wheel drive and has a LOT of power. I love everything about it except for the transmission; an automatic. We purchased this truck new and the transmission was a problem right from the start. When it did not shift smoothly, we made the mistake of listening to the salesman who said that was normal. We've owned this truck for 10 years now and it still looks and runs great. The interior is roomy and very comfortable even on long road trips. There is plenty of power to pull anything we want.
Story
The most fun story is when we were going into Kingman after a heavy rainstorm and met with a neighbor who had become stuck in the mud with his Ford pick-up. This neighbor never liked our truck, but now had to eat crow because we pulled him out of the mud. Our truck never even spun the tires.
Pros
Some favorite features are: excellent stereo, comfortable seats, full size bed for hauling stuff, great air conditioning, plenty of power, power steering for easy maneuverability, heated mirrors, ability to adjust mirrors from inside, full size rear seat for additional passengers.
Cons
The only CON about this truck is the transmission; I believe it was defective right from the factory. We have spent thousands of dollars and it still is not right. Our next step is to buy a new transmission from Chrysler.
