I paid cash for it from a friend back in 2011 and it is already an old car being that it is 1998 Dodge Neon, yet it is very dependable, reliable, cheap to fix and the city taxes on it as well as even emission pricing and insurance costs. I have driven many many many miles on it taking my husband to work to far places from home on a daily basis, all of my doctors appointments, my autistic sons appointments for everything. I have had to repair very little considering how much I have driven it and how many miles I have put on it. When I have to repair it, it is usually cheap for the parts and for the mechanic. It really isn't too hard to fix. I like that it is made of metal, unlike the newer cars, thank goodness cause I was rear-ended 2 times in a 3 month period. There were no dents whats... (more)

Pros
The metal making of the car. The reliability, durability, cheaper costs of parts, labor, taxes and insurance
Cons
The small "Barbie doll," size of it-so low to the ground

2005 Dodge Neon - Great gas economy.

While the car is small and larger or taller users might find it a bit cramped or find that using it to move from one place or another isn't it's strong suit this vehicle really shines when it comes to fuel economy. On the interstate I get about 35 mpg and in city it is about 30. While not spacious the car is still a four door despite having a spoiler on it thus giving it a sporty look with out sacrificing utility and ease of access that you gain from having four doors. Despite it's light weight and small size it performs admirably in the snow and wet roads. This car can get upwards of 80 mph before she begins to shake, I am not sure if that is because of a faulty component some where or if that is just how much the car can take. The interior is set up fairly well with a lift-able arm r... (more)
Story
I once ended up spinning in a circle trying to avoid a crazy driver, the car handled it like a champ.
Pros
I really like the fuel economy and internal lay out of the car. I like how it looks sporty but has four doors and most of all it has a low upkeep cost associated with it as parts are not hard to come by and for most things the engine doesn't have to be lifted out.
Cons
It's very small size makes some things harder such as moving or being really tall or big. Even though the cars max speed is 120 and I will never reach any kind of crazy speed it's inability to go over 80 with out shaking violently is kind of a bummer.

The neon was strong, quick, and great on gas. It wasn't a race car but it could get on to the road when a car was coming. I drove this car hard without the upkeep it deserved and it still lasted many years. I accidentally hit a deer going a little too fast in the dark morning hours and even though I needed a new headlamp bulb it wasn't cracked or dented any where from the impact. This car would get around in the winter, up and down. It was a good strong car all the way through. I had this car "jimmy rigged" and running for quite a long time.
Story
My wife's water broke while pregnant with my daughter in this car.
Pros
The strength of the car in every aspect was exceptional. Definitely a car I would refer to another, or purchase again. With the back seats tilted forward I could fit a bedroom door for transport. I never had to worry about my car not getting through. It was dependable, strong, sturdy, and the gas mileage was great. With a good tune-up and smart driving this car would push 35+mpg, and still have the power to vrrrooommm a little.
Cons
There aren't too many cons for this car I can think of. One thing was the dashboard when the gauges stopped working I had to take out the cluster panel and "re-solder" the solder. After that it worked good from then on. The transmission band needed to be tightened and the filter replaced because of some minor slippage but it was around 200k miles and can be expected on any car, especially when driven rough.
