2005 Dodge Grand Caravan - Great van
We have had our van since it was new, and although we've read that Dodge Grand Caravans have a lot of problems, ours has not. It has been reliable, easy to drive, spacious and comfortable on the inside, and a pleasure to take on road trips.
Pros
We like the roominess of our mini van without having to drive a huge vehicle. There is plenty of room to haul whatever we have needed to haul in it. All four of the back seats can be stowed under the floor in order to make a lot of storage space. We once brought a ton of presents home for Christmas in it, and we still had room for our luggage. In fact, it's so spacious that we've never had to use the rack on the roof. We like that there's enough seating space for our two grandchildren to spread out a bit which helps limit the arguing. Cons
We've really found few negatives about our van. Probably the worst thing is that it has a large gas tank, and it costs around $50 to fill it up. That can come as a bit of a shock. We have also had problems with service from the local Dodge garage. One time my husband took it to get an air leak around the windshield fixed (we had the window replaced by another company because it had been hit by a rock), and the van was returned to us with the air leak still there. He also took the van in last month for an oil change, and we ended up with an oil leak that necessitated another trip to the garage.
2006 Dodge Grand Caravan - It's ok
This is a solid family vehicle. We've taken it camping out of state, we've taken it on road trips across the country, and to all the activities you can think of. It's not without problems, but it's a mostly reliable vehicle.
Pros
This van is durable, runs and starts well in cold weather, and at 80 thousand miles we have not had any problems with the engine or drive train. It starts well in cold weather and the air conditioning blasts in hot weather.
Cons
This van doesn't accelerate well, and that contributes to it doing poorly in snow and ice. If you have to drive up a hill, you'd better get a good running start because it won't make it all the way, and if you have to stop and start again you're out of luck. Some of the interior parts seem to be inferior, namely the plastic that holds the seat controls on the driver's side.
