My family has owned our Dodge Grand Caravan, in its distinctive domed-top, TV-equipped variant, since buying it new in 1998, and it is still the best car weÕve ever owned. The mechanical reliability acceleration and comfortable seats and good peripherals put many much newer cars to shame. Despite a somewhat top-heavy frame, it actually handles very well in snow and heavy rain. This is easily the best auto purchase weÕve ever made, and weÕll keep it until it falls off its chassis.
Story
This van has been a huge part of my life Ñ I used it to move into and out of four dorm rooms, four apartments and a house in four different towns (but the same state). I commuted to every job IÕve ever had in it, gone on vacation in it, eaten in it, napped in it, used it to haul around friends, relatives and stuff, and just generally gotten my moneyÕs worth out of it.
Pros
This is a comfortable, mechanically reliable van with many different peripherals. Most visibly, it has a TV and a VCR that could be replaced with a DVD player. Plain but very comfy cloth seats, a high quality radio with a CD player, good heat and A/C, and lots of cup holders. The engine packs a lot more power than you would expect, and despite a slightly awkward appearance, it handles snow and rain surprisingly well. Great cargo capacity, too.
Cons
The fuel efficiency of a 1998 minivan is nothing impressive, and this is not a glamorous or sexy automobile. ItÕs a triumph of function and practicality over appearance, and some people do not like that.

This is probably a reflection of how the former owner took care of the vehicle, but we've found this to be a very reliable van. I like all the extras, the storage, the ease of putting the third seat up and down, the flat tire tools being in the van and a ton of other features we probably haven't seen yet. The ride is very comfortable and as a fussy passenger, I'm very confident in the handling.
Story
I can't think of a memorable story, but the last time we took the van on a day trip was to the beach. We always carry at least one blanket in the back of the van, and it was a good feeling to know that on the spur of the moment, we could have that in the van and use it for the beach.
Pros
The top positive things are probably the basics of a well-running vehicle. Other pros are all of the beverage holders, all of the storage (probably storage I haven't found yet) and the roominess.
Cons
There's a squeak in the springs every time we drive over a bump of any kind.
