Transferring to 4x4 in this SUV is simple. Just turn the switch. There is plenty of interior room and overall the truck is durable. Still, there are a great number of common deficiencies that go along with the '02 Durango that make it a vehicle worth passing up.
Story
It has been fun to blast through the snow in the dead of winter.
Pros
- Easy and smooth transfer to 4x4 - Tons of room - Durable - Replacement parts are cheap and accessible
Cons
- A/C and Heat system is not going to work. Something in the dash will break, and the air will never make it past defrost - There are a great number of known deficiencies with this vehicle - It's a good things parts are cheap, because you're going to need

The 2001 Dodge Durango does some things very well but misses on a lot of points. Overall it is a comfortable ride, with a nice engine and good power. It has nice amenities such as a cd/cassette player, sunroof, and extra tow capacity. A few downsides are it's braking ability, constant rust issues, water pump and other costly failures such as the sunroof leaking and the ABS computer failing. The ABS computer was a $600 part.
Story
Towing a full camper with the car fully loaded of people and things up to Wisconsin.
Pros
The Durango has a comfortable ride and good power. The tow capacity is more than capable to handle any job even as far as towing cars behind it with a U-Haul rental trailer. The tow capacity on the 5.9 is around 7500 lbs. The sound system sounds good and the big tires and suspension sound good even on the highway at high speeds.
Cons
The Dodge Durango has a habit of expensive parts like the water pump and the ABS computer failing. The body and under carriage rust fairly badly. The truck does not get good gas mileage and it does not have a lot of space for people even though it seats 8. It is surprisingly cramped in the back seat because of the rear differential and even though it is a truck its not very wide, making 3 people across a bench almost too tight to handle.
