2004 Dodge Durango - Great Family Car!
I've owned my Durango for 8 years. It has to be the best family car I have ever owned. We have over 225k miles on it are still running. Took to Yellowstone with a family of 7 and towing a living room (camper) behind us... we did great. We've used every aspect of this car. Lots of room for lots of people with the 3rd row seating. Would have been nice to have a bit more room for storage in the back, but we always made it work. The CD player failed early on in our ownership, but everything was switching to Bluetooth so it really was not a big deal. At one point the transfer-case was stuck in 4 wheel drive for a few months with no mechanic or dealership knowing what to do. Ruined my tires and was a gas hog because of it. Story
Took our family of 7 out to Yellowstone towing our huge family camper. We took 3 weeks to complete the trip from Michigan to Idaho and it was a blast. Mom, Dad and 5 kids age ranging from 5-15. The Durango never failed us and did so very well.
Pros
Lots of room, great towing potential, 225k miles and still runs great.
Cons
Poor gas mileage, lots of rust, CD player failed, key fob failed, transfer-case failed.
2012 Dodge Durango - Awesome family SUV.
I love the room my Dodge Durango gives me for my children. We have plenty of room for everyone and their equipment to get to games and practices. The look of the vehicle is current without being too trendy. It handles great in all weather conditions and gets good gas mileage considering the size of the vehicle.
Story
I frequently have to take my children to band and sports practice in the evenings. One night I pulled up to our high school field and my daughter took out her saxophone and both of my boys took out their pads and helmets for football. One of the kids walking by said "Whoa! You can get a lot in there!" as he watched all of the kids and their stuff pile out.
Pros
I love the appearance of the vehicle. The most used feature for our family is the third row seat. It is convenient to fold it up for additional seating and to fold it down for additional storage. It is also an easy feature to use - even my kids can do it.
Cons
If the third row seat is in use, there is very little trunk space. A few grocery bags can fit there and not much else.
