2012 Dodge Caliber - Awesome Family Car
We purchased the hatchback model of this car for our family of 5. We are able to fit two car seats in the back seat as well as a booster seat. We bought the hatchback model to be able to fit our 80 pound German Shepherd as well. We've had little to no problems with the car. We have never needed to take it in for any major work and we have owned it for 6 months now. It receives awesome gas mileage (close to 27 mpg) and costs little to fill up. Its very comfortable for tall people to drive. My husband is 6'3" and fits comfortable with adequate head room. It is not the most luxurious car, but it is priced well and has many features that we love in cars. The aux port has been a big hit with my husband because in California you can't use your phone and drive. So the aux port allows him to m... (more)
Story
We took this car cross country for Ohio to California. We put cargo in the backseat and the dog in the back cargo area so he could look out the back window. He loved the ride!
Pros
The seats folding flat is our favorite feature. Gives us the cargo capacity of a small SUV with the gas mileage of a compact car.
Cons
The manual seats. None of the models of this car come with automatic seats.
2010 Dodge Caliber - Good Family Car
This car is a good car for a new family just starting out. It's bigger than a regular sedan so it's easy to install car seats or put in a stroller- especially since it's a hatchback. The gas mileage is pretty average and it doesn't have a lot of extra features but it has enough for a mom or dad on the go. The tires are big enough to handle a little more off-road adventures than a typical sedan could.
Story
There are a lot of dirt roads near-by so this vehicle handles them fairly well compared to a sedan. It's got big tires and can hop over curbs if you need it to so we like to adventure a little with it and go off the beaten path.
Pros
The coolest thing in this car is that it has a built-in drink cooler in the glove box. It works through the AC so you can put some cans in there for your road trip and they're still cool when you need a drink. There are a lot of little storage places to hide things in the front part of the car too. With fold-down backseats, The car has enough space inside it to pack up all your things for toting your kids around town or even for a long road trip.
Cons
The back seat is a bit small- fine for little kids but adults have a hard time fitting in it. You could fit 2 people really comfortably but not 3, definitely not if you have a car seat too. The biggest issue has been with insurance- because this vehicle is classified as a crossover, insurance counts it as an SUV so you pay more than a typical sedan.
