2008 Dodge Caliber - I do not like the Caliber. It is difficult to get into and out of.
The gas mileage is great. It is consistent and has been from the day we bought it. From a performance perspective, it has been a great car. We only use it as a secondary vehicle, so it is not driven for commuting to work. It has held up very well.
Story
Not really. My husband uses it mostly to go fishing. He loves it because he keeps the back seats down and can fit his equipment in easily. He's also a retired auto mechanic, so he appreciates the simplicity of it.
Pros
The only real pro about it is the gas mile and performance. I can't complain about that. It is the basic model, so it doesn't have a lot of electronic devices like door locks, windows or onboard computer. That keeps it simple and less likely to break down.
Cons
The biggest con to this vehicle is comfort. The car is incredibly hard to get into unless you are short and weigh 90 lbs. There is a lip on the bottom of the door frame that catches your foot every time. While trying to lift your foot over that, it's almost impossible to sit down in the seat. You end up on the edge of the seat, which is higher, so you have to literally bend in half just to get your head into the car. It is a terrible car for anyone with disabilities or even just trouble lifting a let up. My mom, who is 83, could not ride in this car. On top of it being so low to the ground... (more)
2008 Dodge Caliber - Not made for tall folks.
The cost of this vehicle was low. We just needed a car for my husband to use to do errands and go fishing. It has manual windows & door locks. It did not come with cruise control. It's performance has been good. It runs well and has had no major breakdowns. Gas mileage is good. It still get the mileage it claimed when we purchased it. Comfort, however, is a complete negative. Just getting into the vehicle is incredibly difficult if you are taller than five feet or weigh more than 100 pounds. It has a lip on the floor by the door that catches your foot every time. It's like you have to lift your leg higher just to enter or exit the car. I can't tell you how many times I've fallen getting in. Once inside, there is little to no head room. Story
Trying to get a mattress home using this car. The whole car about tipped over when a burst of wind came up and we weren't prepared.
Pros
The gas mileage is good. The car runs well and has had no mechanical issues.
Cons
The setup of the doorway is bad. It catches your foot and you almost fall getting in. There in negligible head room in the car, so it definitely is not for tall people. The car is basic. It gets you from one place to another. That's about it.
