2001 Chrysler Sebring - Repairs can be expensive
I've owned this car for 2 years, I guess I've been relatively lucky until recently. When I first bought it I thought it was wonderful, I loved the design, and it was in amazing condition for the year, not a scratch on it, and it had been very well looked after. Compared to other cars in it's price range I thought it was far superior, The quality of the interior for example, seems much better than many other cars I viewed. For a 2.7l engine, it is pretty quick, has always driven well, and has never left me stranded! I was never a fan of convertibles, but since getting this car I have been converted. There is nothing like driving around in the summer with the top down!!! I have been pleasantly surprised by the car in the winter too - I was expecting it to loose a lot more heat that a "no... Story
I've had it for 2 summers, and it's been great, there's nothing like driving to the lake with the top down, with our golden retriever sat in the back with his tongue hanging out! I know he'll be the one who misses the car most when it's gone!
Pros
The best bit about the car has to be the style! Even though it's over 10 years old I still think it looks great! Ours is black with a tan top. It also came with the optional wheel upgrade, so we have the 16" instead of 15", that really makes a difference to the look of the car. We are only the 2nd owners, and it has always been looked after and I think that is the key to owning an older car. Considering it is a black car, the paint still looks great, we just have one tiny sun spot on the trunk - pretty incredible given the cars age. The interior looks like new, it is tan - which would not ... (more)
Cons
Although I loved the design of the car, I have since learned that this particular model has not got the best reputation with mechanics! We found out that the 2.7 V6 in this model is one of the bad ones for "engine sludge" Now we have been lucky, and ours has not had this problem, but it has oil changes every 3000, without fail, and we have great mechanic who fully checks the car over every time we bring it in. We also recently found out that a lot of maintenance on this car is more costly that on the standard Sebring (ie not the convertible) for example, the suspension components would cos... (more)
2003 Chrysler Sebring - Sporty little workhorse
The car is a convertible with a fabric top which can automatically open up and close even when the car is in Drive. It has over 100,000 miles on it and it's still going. It cruises nicely and when the top is down on a nice day I still get envious looks even though the car by now shows its age. It has 2 doors that open wide with reflectors so other drivers can see them even when parking at night. I've had this car for 10 years and it has seen many road trips with little incident.
Story
Driving the car onto the beach at night when no one is around and putting the top down to look at the stars while listening to good music and the waves crashing in the dark.
Pros
It has been in a few minor accidents and kept me safe every time. The sound system is excellent, with a sub-woofer. The fabric top opens and closes fairly quickly, so it's possible to put it up or down in the span of time it takes to sit at a red light. It came with a 6 CD changer, which isn't such a big deal now but when it was newer it was. The heater works.
Cons
It has a small backseat that's a little difficult to get into. It takes time to accelerate to higher speeds which can be worrisome when entering the expressway. The treble range on the radio is somewhat limited. There is no AUX port for the radio. The trunk is small because of the well-space the fabric top fits into when it's down.
