2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 - Silverado Top Rate Pickup
The Chevy Silverado 1500 4WD is an American workhorse with the 5.3L 8 cylinder engine. The engine is one of the most durable ever to come out of the GM production line. It combines power to haul payload with higher than average gas mileage for other trucks in the same class. The versions of the extended cab in the Silverado line allow for many choices of passenger comfort and accessibility. It gives ample room for four adults to ride. The short bed of the Silverado 1500 allows for some cargo carry while keeping the wheel base short enough to maximize handling.
Story
I pull a trailer to Arizona every winter and boondock on BLM for months at a time and camp.
Pros
The extended cab fits my lifestyle perfectly and allows for in cab storage of equipment. The gas mileage is better than a full size SUV. The bed is large enough to carry tools and equipment. The performance under four-wheel drive allows for maximum use applications. The towing capacity with the 5.3L is excellent.
Cons
The ride is not as smooth as a full size SUV. It handles like a truck. It doesn't have interior upgrades like an SUV like leather seats, installed satellite radio. It doesn't have adequate auxiliary power supply for today's cell phones, lap tops, GPS, etc. It is rear wheel drive which reduces driving conditions.
2012 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 - Great Truck to Get Stuff Done
The Silverado is a great truck that caters to most men's desires. Four Wheel Drive, and V8 are the 2 main great things. The engine was spot on and I didn't have any failures like I have had with other trucks. Strong power plant.
Story
Took it off road to the top of a mountain in Montana where all the other riders were on ATVs!
Pros
Get everywhere. I have driven this from border to border and from the mountains to the seas. Fuel injection does wonders and handles all altitudes fine. Big tray, nice leather interior, good quality stock sound system.
Cons
Silver color is bad for visibility at night or dusk driving. I would recommend white. I had to take the truck in to the dealer to get the chip reprogrammed because the gear box was changing gears at the wrong time... But a software fix and no charge from the dealer to fix was great! I did have an intermittent heater issue but that was solved by replacing a circuit board that controls the heaters and fans.
