I purchased a 1982 El Camino that I restored with a Chevy 350 crate engine and a R-700 transmission. I added Hedman headers, a four-barrel carburetor, a heavy duty radiator and transmission cooler, a 100-amp alternator, custom distribution system with racing wires. I added chrome wheels with copper tires, a floor shifter, new carpet, replaced the speedometer, added a tachometer and bucket seats. I updated the brake system and replaced the rear drums. It took about a year to get everything right with this car, and when she ran, it was a dream to drive. This car was the perfect cruiser, but you had to be careful when getting on the accelerator...the backend would slide and fishtail around because there was very little weight over the rear tires. The car had a squeak on the right rear qua... (more)
Story
My wife and I spent a week in Tennessee...we drove from Virginia to Nashville to visit my brother and see his family. My brother was impressed with the work I had completed on the car.
Pros
I enjoyed the way this car sounded when I pulled out of the driveway, it definitely turned heads. I really enjoyed having the floor shifter installed in the car, and the tachometer was at a perfect spot to monitor...I depended/drove more with the readings of the tachometer than I did with the speedometer. The new stereo system with CD player was great to listen to, and the detachable head was perfect to keep thieves from stealing the whole unit. It was the perfect car to drive during the early fall when the weather was cool, and the air was dense enough so the engine could perform at its o... (more)
Cons
It was expensive to build, it was expensive to run, the gas mileage was low when I pushed too hard on the accelerator. There was very little weight over the rear tires so I had to be careful when stomping the accelerator...the car can easily get away from a driver. The passenger side window leaked a little bit during a heavy rainstorm. When the temperature changed, I had to adjust the timing.

1987 Chevrolet El Camino - I'd like it more if it was in better shape.

Well first off I dislike how rusty my vehicle is. Makes working on it a pain in the ass. It also is really under powered for having a v8 engine. 150 Horsepower is not enough. Most of the four cylinder engines today have more horsepower than what I have. The acceleration on it is terrible and so is the gas mileage. The only thing I like about it is the ability to haul things and the paint job. The interior is also pretty nice as well. The ride is also pretty rough but that could be because it needs new shocks. I'm not sure on that.
Story
I haven't had it long enough to developed any stories in the car yet.
Pros
The positive things about the vehicle is its ability to haul things. Its got a nice two toned paint job. It has a liner in the back to protect the truck bed. The locks, mirrors, and windows are all power. It also dings when you get out of the car and the lights are still on so you don't accidentally leave them on and kill your battery. The rims on it look awesome and match the paint job. It has a cd player in it.
Cons
It's extremely rusty. The ride is real rough. The power locks don't work. The seat belts don't retract. The gas mileage is terrible and so is the acceleration. It doesn't always start and when you do start it always starts really hard.

I was a little skeptical about purchasing my 2010 Chevy El Camino back in 2010. I'd heard mixed things about it from people online and my friends. However, I really liked the way it looked and the way it felt when I took it on a test drive. Since I've bought it, I've had no regrets about buying it. It's the best car that I've ever owned, and I will probably own an El Camino for the rest of my driving life. I've had it for almost four years and I've yet to have any mechanical issues, or issues in general with it. It's very durable, and it's extremely reliable. I cannot imagine driving anything else at any point in my life.
Pros
The price was decent and the gas mileage is very good. It's a very smooth driver and I use it as my daily driver. It's comfortable and was easy to adjust to, as I drove a car before I purchased this that was the complete opposite of what the El Camino is. But it really is a great vehicle, and I would recommend it to anyone whether they were a friend, enemy, family member, or stranger. It truly is a great vehicle.
