2005 Chevrolet Cobalt - Good First Car
Overall the car was good for a first vehicle. Put on a lot of miles and only a few minor issues. Holding up great for being an old car with over 150,000 miles on it. Reliable and great on gas. Easy to get up to speed and maintained speed well. Decent in the snow but the better tires helped a lot. Easy to maintain and at a low cost. Great first car for young kids learning to drive. There was a lot of space in the trunk. The fold down space made moving things in the car easy.
Story
5 Of us took a road trip from Milwaukee to Ladysmith in the car. We had a weekend's worth of camping stuff in the car. It was a tight fit but made the trip a ton of fun. Large enough to take us.
Pros
Run great and great on gas. High miles and still runs great. No major issues just normal repairs needed. Cheap car parts which made for easy maintenance. Large trunk space. Fold down seats were great.
Cons
As it was a 2005, windows and doors were manual. This was a very simple car. Trunk has a small opening. Can not put two car seats in the car and still have leg room in the front seat. Not a great car for families. Windows in the back seat don't roll down all the way. Almost but not all the way.
2009 Chevrolet Cobalt - Love at first drive.
I have been driving my 2009 Chevy Cobalt for almost 2 years now, and it has been nothing but wonderful. It seats 5, with hardly any discomfort. The gas mileage is astounding considering how little it takes to fill up. I have driven it over 60,000 miles and experienced no problems whatsoever, making it the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. The acceleration is a little slow sometimes, but it isn't anything major unless you're looking to race it. I have plenty of friends who I pick up from the airport, and even their largest suitcases and guitars fit in the trunk. For a little car, that is phenomenal. On the topic of little cars, being able to park it pretty much anywhere comes in handy in urban areas, especially being a student in a city. My stereo works great. The only issue I ha... (more)
Story
Many of my friends also drive Chevy Cobalts, and often times we travel in "packs." We call ourselves the Cobalt Gang, and we always laugh whenever we see each other drive by in our small town.
Pros
My favorite features of this vehicle have to be the gas mileage, and the trunk space. I have younger cousins and siblings that I drive around often, and being able to store their car seats in my trunk with no hassle is extremely convenient. I also drive up to 80 miles a day, and only have to get fuel about once a week or so. It takes about 11 gallons, so filling up is not that expensive. That, to me, is the top reason to buy a Cobalt.
Cons
When I bought my vehicle, it was used, so it came with a few quirks. To date, the cruise control does not work, which can be annoying on long drives. Also, my tire gauge does not fully function correctly, so I have to constantly check my tire pressure.
