1996 Chevrolet Blazer - Reliable, safe, and well-built
I purchased the vehicle used from an auto sales representative. The SUV was an older model, however we liked that it only had 60,000 for being 18 years old. I really like that the truck has 4WD, since we tend to have harsh winters with a lot of lake effect snow, and we also spend a lot of time in the mountains where 4WD is necessary. We did not like the original stereo and sound system that came with the car and replaced that very fast.
Story
We have taken this car on many, many long distance trips so far and it has had no problems. Taking it through the mountains was fantastic, there was no fear at all that the 4WD would give out on us and we felt safe.
Pros
4WD, very roomy. We have more than enough room to pack up for a road trip and bring our two adult huskies with us with everyone still having enough room to be comfortable. I also like that hatch back trunk, I can open the trunk in two different ways. Another positive factor that helped in buying the car was it only had one owner for all those years, we knew it was well taken care of as soon as we saw it.
Cons
The top negative feature of the car is the MPG. Right now it is 17city/19hwy, this isn't very cost effective and can be somewhat of an annoyance since we seem to always be stopping for gas. Another negative about the truck is the leather seats. It's cold in the winter, and we do not have seat warmers so the cold seats are not very comfortable when you first get in. Another negative part of the car lever to change gears is right in front of the stereo, so when we try to use the stereo we always bump into the gear lever.
