1998 Chevrolet Blazer - Old reliable
The vehicle was a nice black color and was definitely a reliable automobile. Not only this, but it was particularly cheap for a mid-sized SUV and gas mileage, while a little rough, was affordable for a high school/college age student trying to make ends meet. Overall, the car lasted four years in my car with a multitude of repairs--most of which are expected from an old car like the breaks, tires, spark plugs, etc.
Story
We were driving down some country roads in southern Indiana talking about naming the car when we hit a bump and the CD skipped to another song, "You're not Salinger kid, get over it." We decided to name the car Salinger, which was fun and a nice memory.
Pros
The car was reliable and definitely capable of going the distance. For the most part, it got me from point A to point B. The windows were electric rather than roll down, so they were a bit more convenient. Likewise, it was just a generally pleasant car to be in since it was moderately smooth on the backroads I lived on and remained a comfortable ride in a small-college town. Overall, it ran smoothly, was a cheap purchase at just $2,000, and had plenty of room.
Cons
It had a broken CD player, which was annoying but replaceable. Likewise, not really the car's fault. The car itself had poor gas mileage, and the seats would get stuck when raising/lowering them for more room. Generally speaking, while the vehicle wasn't terrible, it definitely had room for improvements. The car did have several unexpected repairs, including the alternator and steering wheel.
2000 Chevrolet Blazer - I have been very disappointed with this vehicle.
It was the former owner who is responsible. The 2nd time it was driven, there was a blow out. This caused the axil to bend. It had to be replaced. Had to put new tires on the blazer after being told they were in good shape. All speakers but one were blown. It overheated. It makes loud notice when driving. You hear all road noise. It is not safe on the highway or interstate. Only good for driving very local. It has just been a money pit. The air conditioning doesn't work. The price to replace that is around $300 just for the part. That does not include the labor for the work. Unfortunately, the former owner was a smoker and you can still smell a faint smoke odor.
Story
I drove it for the second time I believe and made it seven miles down the road and had a blow out. That was definitely memorable.
Pros
It has decent leather seats. It makes a good work truck for local deliveries and pick ups. Do not have to worry about getting grease on the seats or carpet.
Cons
It is just not reliable. It has been nothing but a money pit. Broken speakers. Blown tire. Broken axil. The list is long. No air conditioning.
