I like the 2002 Chevrolet Blazer's combination of ride quality, interior space, low operating cost, and reliability. The main problem has been a slowly worsening fuel injection system.
Story
The Blazer has more seating space than any other type of vehicle which I have owned before, and going to local places with more friends in one vehicle continues to be more enjoyable.
Pros
The Blazer sometimes reaches 24 miles per gallon on long highway trips, which is far above any estimate which I have found online or elsewhere. It has ample ground clearance (even on my two-wheel-drive model) and 15" x 7" wheels on each corner, plus for the spare, which makes the variety of appropriate tires plentiful and often inexpensive. Other types of parts for the Blazer have been easy to find, plentiful in variety, and usually inexpensive. Its sturdy construction, driver and front passenger airbags, and four-wheel disc brakes provide ample safety, even resulting in a lower insuran... (more)
Cons
One problem has caused me to need to have the Blazer towed in for service, and that was a failed fuel pump. The replacement cost me less than $700.00 Including installation. The fuel injection system has been blamed by several mechanics for gradually decreasing miles per gallon, especially during city driving. It also triggers a code in the diagnostic system at least as often as every 400 miles. I opted to learn how to reset part of the diagnostic system, mostly because it otherwise switches one of the on-board computers into a default mode, which drastically decreases miles per gallon.

My wife and I bought our Chevy Blazer to accommodate our lifestyle while pregnant with our first kid. We needed a reliable vehicle that could fit at least 4 people + cargo. Our Blazer has exceeded most of our expectations in the last 5 years of ownership.
Story
Driving our kids home from the hospital in the Blazer after they were both born sticks out the most. Those times and the many successful road trips we've taken in the last 5 years with our Blazer are most prevalent. Such a good road trip vehicle.
Pros
My wife drives the Blazer to and from work (40 min drive overall) Monday through Friday. I also use it to mow lawns during the weekend + doing the usual family fun stuff (park trips, going to grandparents' houses etc.) And errands (grocery shopping, banking, paying bills etc.) Throughout the week. Even with over 150,000 miles on the engine, our Blazer still beasts through everything we've thrown at it. It's the Marshawn Lynch of vehicles.
Cons
While it's an awesome vehicle, it's of course not perfect. I've had to perform a couple of odd jobs on the Blazer over the years, including nominal things like fuses, medium jobs like swapping out the battery, and up to having to change out the fuel filter after it died one day. The biggest/ongoing issue is the electrical throughout, though. No matter which fuses and bulbs I replace, our interior dome light, and some of the CD/radio buttons don't illuminate anymore. One other minor gripe is the protrusion of the wheel wells into the cargo area. There have been numerous times I've had to h... (more)

I purchased this car from my grandfather used for a cash amount. The vehicle has since given me a number of issues. Yes it is big which is nice as you can transport a good number of people and feel relatively safe driving a larger vehicle as opposed to a small car. It performed well enough you could say but the gas certainly was not the best by any means. It cost a lot to fill it up and it eats through the gas in comparison to a smaller vehicle.
Story
The one time I was driving around the heat shield fell off the bottom after it had been rattling a little for a bit, I found it amusing I'm sure others probably did not.
Pros
There is a large carrying capacity and you can hold a good number of people. The seating area is spacious and I suppose if you had kids you would be able to separate them if needed. It does better than a small car in certain conditions, such as snow and ice that much is definitely a plus for people who are uncomfortable driving in winter conditions.
Cons
Seemed costly in terms of maintenance. I know I had a fair bit of problems with it but I suppose that is what happens when you buy used even from family considering that they are not professional mechanics. It definitely uses a good bit of gas in comparison to other vehicles I have owned. If it weren't for the different issues I would say I probably would have liked the vehicle a decent bit more. Though it could just be mine it seems to eat oil up a bit with me having to top if off now and again.
