The vehicle is very old and has a few problems . The original design is very well put together . It has a lot of great features , such as power brakes, power windows, cruise control . In 1989, safety features in vehicles were basically non-existent. Head and side air bags were not available, and stability and traction control technology was not implemented. The only standard safety feature available on the 1989 Chevrolet C/K 1500 was the anti-lock brake system. The 1989 Chevrolet C/K 1500 was powered by a 4.3-liter V6 engine. The engine had an output power of 160 horsepower and 235 foot-pounds of torque. The bore and stroke was 4.00 inches by 3.48 inches, and the compression ratio of the engine and fuel injection system on the 1989 C/K 1500 was 9.3:1. The vehicle also came standard wit... (more)

Its called the pigs truck because it stank when we got it. A true workhorse! Overall great ride, although on snow and ice it tends to ride a little light. You've got to add some weight for winter driving and high-wind conditions. Compared to a new truck, you can still get parts and work on it yourself! Primary Use: Utility (towing boats, transporting cargo, etc.) Pros: The engine and transmi... (more)
Pros
Though this truck has given me quite a few scares and cost me a pretty penny I wouldn't trade it for the world. It is a big old beast and I can see over the top of cars and most other trucks. It is a gas guzzler but that isn't a problem when you drive 4 blocks to work. Brakes shockingly good for such a heavy machine - and for the most part the engine is strong. I've enjoyed my 24 years and will continue to enjoy many more years with it. Wouldn't recommend it to those that don't like to do small repairs. Worth it to me though!
Cons
Replaced transmission at 295,012 miles. Replaced seats at 208,670 miles. Replaced body bolts at 300,009 miles. Body bolts hold truck to frame. Replaced all gaskets around 400,000 miles. Replaced driver and passenger side window motors. Replaced all windows at 215,421 miles. Replaced rear axle at 208,468 miles.

In my opinion, the Independent trucks are the best truck you can buy. I always get the silver stage tens. They have a really wide hangar, meaning that there is more space to grind on. They come with soft bushings, making it easy to turn. They look great. They grind like butter! Smoothest truck I have ever grinded, especially once they've been worn in a little. They are affordable, and last FOREVER. I have gone through three decks on the same trucks, and they are still perfect. They grind better every day. Don't even look like breaking any time soon.
Story
Going up mountains, and having a ton of space for friends and family. The most memorable thing for me is that I took my truck out for a road trip in San Diego. We were there for a about two weeks. We went by the sand dooms, and my truck was ale to handle all that dirt which I was so afraid because it was my first time ever taking it near something like that. I was nearly shocked that I had no ... (more)
Pros
It has great weather tolerance, great space for a big family , and you feel safe and secure with how high these trucks are.
Cons
It is scary when turning on narrow curbs.

I needed a work van, something I could use for mail delivery. While I'm delivering the mail, I must sit in the PASSENGER seat, and stretch my left arm and left foot out to use the steering wheel and gas and brake pedals. Not having a console in the middle is an obvious plus for me, as are the MANUAL door locks and window roll-ups (less to go wrong). I must drive six days a week, in all weather conditions, often carrying heavy loads, and using the brakes hundreds of times a day to stop at each mail box on my rural route. Very few vehicles can take this punishment! My Astrovan Cargo edition has been in use for eight years now.
Story
Thanks to the AWD (All-Wheel-Drive) feature, and my Blizzak-style tires, I am often the only person to show up for work on time in very bad weather! I put it into 2nd gear to slow the transmission and improve the torque (never in D, which in some cars is actually "over-drive", for freeway driving), leave early for work, and take it easy. I'm not sure how "fun" it was, but I'll never forget the... (more)
Pros
Durability. The vehicle ran over 250,000 miles before the transmission failed, and the motor is still quiet and leak-free. (This may be because of the belt-driven cooling fan, which I believe to be a necessity in a work vehicle. If you have an electric engine-cooling fan, and it fails, so will your transmission and engine blow out within several miles, if overheated!) The price for this vehicle, used, was also very reasonable. The "barn doors" in back make loading\unloading easy. Lots of room, too.
Cons
Door locks\linkages poorly designed, break easily, and are difficult to wire back together again. (The linkages are similar to wire coat hangers!) Fuel pump failure is very common, and I've had to replace the pump three times in five years! And I do NOT allow the tank to run almost empty, which can be a cause of this. The serpentine belt makes a break down in your power steering pump also cause your brakes to fail, and the vehicle will not start then, either! I miss the old, multi-belt designs, in which one component did not affect the others! Poor wheel well clearance. Needs more room for... (more)
