Know where you're going. Ontario is big, for the suburbs, and although there are freeways going east and west if you need to go north/south you are stuck on surface streets, unless you go all the way east to the 15 freeway.

Go to CarMax first and get an estimate, it will tell you the minimum that you can get for your car. You can also use that estimate as leverage at a car dealership. Ontario has a big auto center with multiple dealerships. You can walk and research cars with one trip.

It is parallel to the freeway and crosses several cities, but also is the main road between my work and the mall if I need to run errands.
