I bought my 2002 Buick Century as a used car for $1500. That was two years ago. I was told it was just an old clunker but it would probably get me around for awhile. I have driven this car for two years doing nothing but keeping the oil changed regularly. This car has 195,000 miles on it and since I've had it has been from my home in central Iowa to such places as Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Michigan, and I wouldn't be afraid to take it to California. I love this car. It gets 32 mpg, uses no oil, rides comfortably, and has no major issues. If I was to recommend a car, I would definitely recommend a Buick. They are dependable, roomy and comfortable on long trips, plus they have a nice large trunk capable of hauling anything you might want to put in it. They are powerful enough to pul... (more)
Story
I drove my car to Virginia, Minnesota on a day when the temperature was 35 degrees for a daytime high, but by the time I arrived in Virginia, it had dropped to 31 degrees with a 35 mph wind. The company I work for was supposed to provide me with a hotel room for the time that I was there, but upon arriving nobody had a clue where I was supposed to be staying. Needless to say, I wound up spendi... (more)
Pros
3.1, 6 cylinder engine is powerful enough to get the job done but small enough to get great gas mileage. Engine is a powerhouse that uses very little oil. Air Conditioning is cold Heater keeps you warm no matter how low the temperature is and it can get mighty cold in Iowa. Performance is above average. Handling is excellent with a good solid feel and excellent steering around curves. Dual airbags makes this car safe. It has power locks, power windows, and power disk brakes.
Cons
The only problems that I have had with it is the cigarette lighter socket does not work. The clear coat is peeling very badly on the hood, only on the hood. The back windows have quit operating but I do not find that to be much of a problem as I am single and don't ride in the back seat.

We have had our 2002 Buick Century for about 12 years now, and it has held up very well. As with any car, it has had to be in the shop a few times for different things. It drives and handles real well, it has over 200,000 miles on it, and it still going strong. The only issues now are that the body is getting some rust from our wonderful Wyoming winters when we have salt put on the roads, the rear view mirror fell off from getting too hot in the car this summer, and the gear indicator light went out a while ago. The car starts great and runs well even with all the miles on it. It could use a new battery, but that is not much of a problem. The interior has held up very well with adults, kids, and dogs all riding in it at different times. The car still has a lot of pep in it too. W... (more)
Story
Driving around area where trucks were stuck and then offering to help them out even though we were in a car and they were in a truck.
Pros
We have had this car for a very long time, and it is a great little car. We have taken it to several states over the years. It performs so well in the snow, it is unbelievable. Even with being a low to the ground car, it rarely get stuck. It has outperformed some trucks in our area.
Cons
The biggest negative with this car is that for about a year or so it would randomly not start. We would have no clue when it would happen. Since it was random and not constant, the mechanic could not find the issue to fix it. That was a very bad issue. The mechanic was finally able to find the issue when we had it in for an oil change one day.
