Right off the bat, I can't lie - The upfront price of a BMW is not for everyone. I would have never considered owning one myself had I not moved to a large city with insane traffic and the sincere need to accelerate rapidly and stop on a dime. I love to drive and enjoy vehicles that love to be driven, and a BMW does just that. The seats are ridiculously comfortable and on the occasions where I must rent a car from an airport, I always feel sorry for people who own such popular vehicles. Dollar for dollar, I'd buy a used BMW long before I bought a brand new anything. I've contemplated trading my car in and have driven new Mercedes, Honda, Lexus and Toyota but there is really nothing on the market that comes close to a BMW. I'm a fan for life. They're called The Ultimate Driving Machine ... (more)
Story
Six weeks after I bought my car, I got pulled over doing 92 in a 65 on a 90 degree day with the sunroof open and heading home from the beach. A Sanford & Son type lawn truck had merged onto the interstate and given my new-found acceleration power, I was merely getting around the hazard instead of doing the "legal" thing, which is slowing down and allowing them to rain weed eaters, shovels and ... Pros
Right away I fell in love with the steering wheel. It's size and positioning is unlike any other vehicle and truly sets the stage. The gauges are very nicely positioned and everything is a mere fingertip away. The performance of the car itself is just phenomenal, from hugging corners to accelerating flawlessly, it truly feels like a fast sports car rather than a sedan. The unexpected pro to owning a BMW is, the rumors of them being really expensive to maintain is just baloney. Of course any dealer service is expensive, but there are passionate BMW mechanics who stand on their own work rat... (more)
Cons
I do not care for the placement of the cup holders at all. It's as if the positioning and size were an afterthought and do not accommodate coffee mugs from home. Ironically, a Starbuck's cup fits just fine. I also do not like the color of the vehicle or the paint itself. The paint is dull and drab in comparison to other manufacturers, and lacks any shine even when professionally detailed and squeaky clean. Speaking of which, I've never required a clay bar detail to remove oxidization before on any other vehicle I've owned, and given the price I paid it is really not fun to spend $200 rathe... (more)

I like my 2008 BMW 5 for its comfort and ease of driving. Of course a BMW is known for its stability and ability to hug the road. It is a very solid ride and there is very little road noise. I must frequently make 11 hour drives to visit my mom and it allows me to make the drive in comfort in one day without having to stay overnight somewhere.
Story
When I first purchased the car, I still had my Anatolian Shephard dog which is a very large, tall breed. Andy, the Anatol, enjoyed standing in the back seat and poking his head out of the sun roof on his trips to the vet. I never pamper a car; I believe it is around to serve me. The BMW 5 isn't fussy, just solid top notch.
Pros
The top positive things about the car are its roominess, comfort, and ease of driving. The full sized sedan has four doors. It is not too low to the ground, so getting in and out is easier. There is plenty of room for five adults and the trunk is huge! Traveling with luggage is a breeze and the whole family can fit when I travel to visit the out of town folks.
Cons
One thing I didn't like about the vehicle was the price point. I bought the 2008 model in 2011 and paid as much for it used as I would have for a brand new vehicle of another make. It has been pretty reliable, but several unexpected repairs were very costly including a repair to a vibration under the hood and some kind of dislodging of the sun roof which seem to be pretty common problems with the 5 series after I looked around a little online.
