2003 BMW 5 Series Owner Ratings & Reviews
Write a Review
2003 BMW 5 Series - Fast, but not without its flaws.
The overall performance of the vehicle is great. The handling of the vehicle is on point and turns on a dime. I like the overall interior and exterior design. The leather is of good quality and the Bose stereo system is superior. I haven't had any major problems with the interior besides a button for the A/C falling off. The engine is strong, although I did have a problem with the torque converter in the transmission failing which ended with me getting the whole transmission rebuilt. There are a few things that I dislike about this vehicle and that is the common problem with the transmission and window regulators going out. I have replaced the window regulator on the drivers side three times now, in two years. I really can't complain since it is a older vehicle and has many miles on it... (more)
Story
It is a fun/memorable story now, but there was an alert for hurricane Irene, so I decided to go inland since I lived in Va Beach, VA. I packed in 2 adults, 2 kids, and 2 pit bulls in the car along with luggage, coolers, and personal effects for this storm. At the time, it was a stressful situation, but now I find it comical since nothing really became of the hurricane. We looked silly packed i... (more)
Pros
I love the overall performance and handling of the vehicle. My favorite features are the sound system and the durable leather that still hasn't shown much age over the years.
Cons
The cons are the issues with the torque converter going bad and window regulator problems.
2003 BMW 5 Series - Best car I have ever owned
I was told that if I ever drove a BMW, that I would never want to drive another car. They were right. This BMW handles like a dream. It is quiet, but full of power. It handles corners, acceleration, and fast braking like a champ. The interior looks like brand-new. Unlike some older vehicles with leather interior, none of the leather has cracked or split. There is so much common-sense engineering built into this car that other cars pale in comparison. Even the stock sound system sounds great.
Story
My area can get quite hot during the summers. This car's A/C system is cold - it is great for getting the car cooled down during hot days.
Pros
I don't think I could pick out a favorite feature. It has a classic look, so it doesn't look dated. It has a solid feel to it. One of the most surprising things to me was how easy and inexpensive it has been to work on it. It's like the BMW engineers made the car so that the owner could fix it themselves. The parts are available online and are often less expensive than comparable parts for my Chevy truck. There are large online communities that give step-by-step instructions on how to do every repair imaginable. It is an extremely comfortable car to sit in, and has excellent visibility out... (more)
