I've had my 2004 330i for about 50k miles and I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with it. I was attracted to this particular ZHP model for the four door practicality with the near M3 performance and good looks. After about six years it still looks good, but the maintenance needs keep mounting. Forget about the dealer prices. Even the independent BMW mechanics are not cheap. Seems like more often than not, when something does wrong with the car, it spells big bucks at the shop. Suspension components, tires, electronics, bumper covers, window actuators, sunroof mechanisms. You name it.
Story
Great to take out on back roads with the windows down and the sunroof open.
Pros
Great looking vehicle Good acceleration and handling Four doors 6-speed manual
Cons
Cramped interior. Small back seat High Maintenance costs Electronic and mechanical gremlins

2001 BMW 3 Series - Nice ride, but expensive

As far as this vehicle is concerned with comfort, I definitely enjoyed this vehicle. It was very fun to drive, and a much desired ride when taking long road trips. I drove to northern Wisconsin from Virginia beach less than a year after owning; most people would not like a 26+ hour ride. However, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It is an excellent coupe, perfect for a first ride which still has a lot of power along with safety. The maintenance is very expensive though, each repair was at least double of what it would be for my current vehicle. Being a foreign model, this vehicle is not the easiest to work on if you aren't fluent in mechanics; unless it is something simple such as brakes, oil, or items with little maintenance needed.. once it does break down, it all seems to break down at once.... Story
It has a load of power, and quite a bit of fun waiting for you when the snow starts to fall, and the parking lot will be screaming your name. Great drifting and amazing speed when the car is at optimum maintenance proficiency.
Pros
Many pros involved in this model are: The power, torque and handling are amazing. There are one touch windows, and sunroof. A full size spare, and tool kid miraculously hidden in the very large trunk. All electronic, heated leather seats. Teptronic transmission capable. Has traction control. You have the ability to open all windows with a keyfob from the exterior of the vehicle. Reasonable gas mileage in regards to the engine.
Cons
Everything breaks down at once. Side trim around doors falls off easily. Costly maintenance, nearly double that of its competitors. Breaks wear very easily/quickly. Not good sized for a family, taller individuals, or people with weight problems. The constant requirement and burden of specially ordered parts and fluids. Having to put only premium gasoline in at the pump. Replacement keys and keyfobs are ridiculously overpriced. A/C went out, and even the shop couldn't fix it. Ball joints, control arms, and suspension related items wear quickly
