Our 2000 Black TL was purchased used in 2003 with 50,000 miles. With now over 250,000 miles, the car has been very satisfactory on its journeys all across the United States. Reliability has been good. A malfunctioning power seat back on the driver's side and dismal seat heating have been the only issues thus far. The trim is starting to separate from the handle on the inside of the rear doors and the Xenon headlights are not as bright as when we first got the car - normal wear and tear. Luckily, we've had no issues with the transmission (knock on wood). TL is sufficient for most light travel. I would never get rid of it ever.
Story
It was an miracle that one day I was able to fit ten adults in the car. Luckily, we were only going for a short trip consisting of about three miles, so we made it without losing anyone.
Pros
The sport shift works great, no transmission issues (knock on wood) and no complaints. Bought it in flawless, mint condition from a local, reliable used car dealer. It's fun to drive, looks sweet (black), and performs like a champ. I bought it to replace my aging but reliable, '94 Toyota Corolla Hatchback. It had a lot of overdue maintenance needs and a dying transmission, which would have cost more than it was worth.
Cons
The dismal seat heating is my only complaint. Everything else about the car is excellent.

This is the most reliable car you could ever ask for. It is not fancy but has comfortable seats. It won't impress anyone with flashy tricks (1999) but gets great gas mileage and that reliability factor! You won't get a fancy radio either. Like I said, this is 1999. But 1999 can run for a long time!
Story
I always loved picking my friends up in this car in high school, and we would drive to Friendlys at midnight and get chocolate milkshakes.
Pros
It is a super safe car. I never been in an accident in the car and always felt safe driving it. It gets great gas mileage. It wont break down. The engine and transmission are great.
Cons
Well, it is a 1999 model. So there is no aux cord. Or TV in the car. Or any fancy back-up mirror. And you need to remember to bring it in for oil changes!
