2003 Acura CL - Excellent value
My vehicle is a 2003 Acura CL Type S, six-speed manual, six cylinder. I purchased this vehicle used with about 40,000 miles on it. It is fourteen years old with almost 200,000 miles and still running. I strive to keep up with oil changes and other basic maintenance. Other than normal wear and tear, I have had no major issues. The CL is a lot of fun to drive. The only downside is that I have to use premium unleaded gasoline. However, I still get about 25 miles to the gallon. I have driven newer vehicles, and I am always happy to get back into my own car. I am partial to Acura, as their vehicles come standard with extras. The quality and workmanship make for a very solid vehicle. Not only will it last a long time, but they have a decent re-sale value, to boot. I have owned two Integra's ... (more)
Story
My daughter just got her learner's permit, and I keep trying to convince her to learn to drive my car. She only wants to drive an automatic. However, I have gotten her behind the wheel a couple of times. At the end of our lesson, she had a new respect for my driving abilities!
Pros
This vehicle is fun to drive, it gets decent gas mileage, and I have had no major mechanical issues with it, aside from a timing belt recall that was fixed right away at no charge. Also, the Acura dealership near me is run very efficiently. I think I only had to bring it in three times that I can remember.
Cons
This car only comes in a two door and the backseat only fits two people. This was not an issue for me once my children were out of baby seats. However, it became an issue again when they grew. Now they have a hard time climbing in and out of the back seat, as expected. This is really a two-person vehicle.
2003 Acura CL - Excellent
I bought one of these as my first car when I was 19. I needed a car, and this was honestly one of my last options, since I wasn't thinking straight and was looking for something sporty-ish. I didn't really like the way the exterior looked, and I kind of wanted the Audi A4 I had been looking at. But after all the problems we found on the A4, I went with this one. Mine was the 03 Type - S with the six-speed standard and navigation, and, yes, this is the car that I used to finally finish learning to drive a standard transmission. When I first got it, I didn't really like it too much because I wasn't really aware of what I had. As I began to spend more time in it, I really started to warm up to it. At that point, the only thing I really didn't like was the fact that it was FWD, but I didn'... (more)
Story
When my friends and I went on vacation. It was a nice drive. So much fun with my friends.
Pros
Smooth, not flashy but not boring either. Gorgeous exterior, still looks great compared to the fourth generation TL. In a word, bulletproof. Almost 3-1/2 years of trouble free urban driving and with annual 2,800-mile round trips from Seattle to Chula Vista, CA. Aside from free 1st dealer service, zero trips back to the dealer as I do my own maintenance/lubrication.
Cons
Handles bumps of poorly maintained California roads well. It is difficult to see other cars around you. The blind spots and window pillars make it hard to see other cars.
